Move Dropzone samples into Dimension Pro (.prog)
Hello So I'm continuing my legacy clear out today... I decided to move all .prog files from DropZone folders to Dimension Pro, and did something similar with the multisamples folders. The idea is to get rid of DropZone altogether but get the sounds playing in Dimension Pro. When I tried one of the DropZone samples under Dimension Pro (i.e. Pads and Atmospheres/About to Come) I get "error uncompressing program data" So can I assume that a DropZone .prog sample file isn't compatible with a dimension pro .prog file? Thanks...

There was a similar issue a couple weeks ago in this thread. I am actually not sure where the files of concern in that thread came from, but it does seem that the format of files can be dependent on the host running them. Your assumption may be 100% accurate.

I believe CakeAlexS is talking about loading Dropzone _programs_ into DimPro.
Is this supposed to be possible ? I just tried and I'm not surprised it doesn't work.
You can however load Dropzone's multisample .sfz files. So keep its Multisamples folder.

I doubt dropzone pro reads prog files from dimpro. Even though it would be nice if "prog" was a standard across VSTis that allowed patches to be shared between different synths. I realize that could get complicated due to various methods of synthesis and references to files, but it seems like something that could be done since synths share so many common parameters. At the very least, synths that share the same engine like the Cakewalk synths should be able to accomplish something like this.

And the other thing is... If the .prog files formats are incompatible with each other... Why on earth did they both use an extension called PROG ? (Unless they were massive Genesis fans).

Could be because Rene called the patches for his sfz engine synths synths "Programs." They are binary files containing data specific to each synth.

That is the case with any file extension, even a simple "doc" file. MS Word is not the only program to use this extension, but a MS word "doc" won't open in all of them.

Although Microsoft apps have backwards compatibility and often do release utils that allow their office products to be forward compatible as well...
