Been meaning to pick this up for some time. Just purchased, as the price is definitely right. I wonder if anyone has any experience with Progression - also half off at ~ $25. Don't know if it's just a stripped version of Notion - seems to be more targeted to song creation... but I don't have a feel for the workflow. Maybe I'll look for a demo. Anybody have both Notion and Progression?

Progression seems to be more band oriented where Notion 4 is more orchestral based. Although, you get the same Zaza guitar, Wooten bass and drum samples in Notion. Progression does not have the extensive library of orchestra samples.

Hey Sid - are you using 64 bit rewire? I seem to have a pitch issue between Notion 4 when rewired into SONAR x3C. If I enable MIDI echo with a piano in Notion and any other synth in SONAR at the same time, there is more than a semitone of difference between the two. It's not a tuning issue - notion is set for A=442 hz - I set Addictive keys to (A=)442 in SONAR. If I export from Notion into Sonar, staff view and PRV match what's recorded in Notion - so it seems to only be playback via Rewire that is the issue. I know some early "solutions" for notion Rewire to 64 bit sonar involved Loopbe or similar virtual MiDI cable devices. I am not doing anything but enabling Rewire in Notion and opening Notion as a Rewire device in SONAR X3C. Any ideas?

Well I see the root cause. My audio drivers are 24 bit/48K in SONAR (ASIO, Presonus 1818VSL) - When I set up to use 24 bit/44KHz instead, everything sounds as it should between the soft synths in SONAR and and instruments (or softsynths) in Notion 4. So this appears to be an issue where the Rewire driver itself (either in Notion, or in SONAR or maybe as supplied by propellerheads) assumes/insists on running at 44K(?). I have several older plugs that are 32 bit rewire, but nothing else beyond Melodyne Editor and Notion 4 that are Rewire 64 bit. If anyone is using Rewire 64, are you seeing pitch issues if you are using audio driver settings other than 44K? Meanwhile I will report this to both Notion/Presonus and CAKE to see where it goes.

Just emailed Notion support as well - realizing no response likely from either Cake or Notion until next week with the Holiday. BTW Happy Thanksgiving, everyone.

I just heard back from Brian at Notion concerning this - apparently this is "by design". Currently Notion is ONLY designed to work at a 44.1 KHz sample rate - They say they hope to have 48 KHz available in the future. I wouldn't call this a deal breaker but for anyone, for example, doing work for digital video, it might be. Notion is very good though, so in my own case, reverting back to a 44.1 K sample rate is not a big deal.

Sorry, Brando! I have been away from the forum for a while. Holiday stuff! I see you already have your answer. Notion is designed to run at 44.1. From what I have learned about sample and bit rate even on this forum, you might have to have the ears of a dog to hear the difference in 44.1 and 48K. If it were 96K or above you may find a discernible difference but not those particular two sample rates. Anyway, I never had many calls for 48K except DVD projects. Sorry again for taking so long to get back to you. Enjoy Notion!

Hmm.. Well I did purchase it, given the low price, but initial experiences have been a little underwhelming. In particular I'm having issues with sampled sounds playing randomly late when MIDI events are triggered. Now this is a core-i7 with a Scarlett 6i6 and it works flawlessly in Reaper with latencies down to 3ms, and it works perfectly in Kontakt standalone and many other audio apps, but in Notion, set to use the Scarlett driver, MIDI timing is very erratic. Notes can trigger up to half a second late. Not impressed, either, that changing latency from the Scarlett control panel causes Notion to completely screw up sample playback (it plays the notes but they are distorted, as if the buffer boundaries are incorrect). Reaper handles this absolutely fine, I can change latency in the Scarlett control panel without any problems. So I seriously doubt this is a driver issue. Set to 44.1KHz 24 bit sample rate. I'll contact Notion support and see what they have to say. Another major irritation is that there seems to be no way to set the metronome volume. This seems like a really odd oversight given that it could easily have been a channel in the mixer view. EDIT: And a further issue now. Playing back pretty much any of the demo scores crashes it within a few seconds. Since my setup has been absolutely rock-solid with reaper and stand-alone Kontakt, and with a *ton* of different VSTs, I'm dubious this is a driver issue, anyway, I'll take it up with support and see. Tried installing the 32 bit version instead and it was the same. Kinda odd, too, that unlike most software, if you install one version it overwrites the other, as far as I can see. Nor was the 32 bit install smart enough to find the sound library from the 64 bit install without manual intervention. Little things like that make me wonder about software quality. Still, others have apparently had great experiences with it so we'll see what support has to say.
