Been a long time
but X3 is doing more than I know what to do with it. First project after a couple of years so I wrote it with the intentions of learning how to mix sounds that I think I know how they should sound. Wanted a project that may possibly be worth asking Danny to do his magic and help me learn. Almost burned out on it...out of shape at the least. "I don't know" - almost like starting over and open to hard truths.

Mmm, liking this Michael. Bit of a Satriani vibe to the main lead, nice tone. Actually, lots of tasty tones throughout this. Cool breakdown to the shuffle there, neatly done. Drums are very well done, wish I could get 'em like that. Love that clean riff, really infectious.

With my furry ears I doubt if there is much I could say that would mean anything. My ears enjoyed it.

As James said, the drums are super on this. The guitar part is tasty, and the tone is just right. This song may very well be done. Good job.

Welcome back Michael, glad you could join us again. Been a long time. The song is just awesome with some nice sounding guitars and some nice riffs. The drums are spot on and sound great. Guess you have been getting a work out with X3, but I don't think you will have any problems from the sounds going on in this one. Great job on this. Peace and Blessings, John

James- thanks for listening and the kind words. I was really expecting a different reaction...I had reached a point that I didn't trust my judgment. Wookiee- LOL...you got the furry and I think I got the fuzzy. Lynn- thank you. I appreciate your time and kind words. John- thank you. X3 has been a real treat. I sure don't know much about it- Recording is real simple because I don't know (or really care ) to use everything it will do- so it's nice just to be able to put something down again. And man John! You guys just have bottomless wells of creativity! I haven't been posting but I've been listening to you guys. (I think ya'll know that though)

Spacey, Nice one. Reminds me of the Allman Brothers, or what they might be doing today if Duane was around yet. Very enjoyable listen and well mixed. Regards

markno999- thank you! I would never have thought that and appreciate the thought. notnat- thank you Frank. Every part of this was written as "things" - not sure how to explain other than all the parts were for sounds I wanted for learning what I can about mixing. I wasn't trying to record a "tune" so much to show playing skills (which are almost gone) or just a great tune. I sure reached a point that I couldn't trust my ears or skills to do any better than what it is. I wanted it to be/contain the instruments that IF I could get Danny to give me lessons I may be able to retain the information. That much I think I achieved. CLEAN- thank you Mark. It's great to have something to post again. It's just been a pleasure to be able to record again and me be the biggest issue. Sure appreciate the kudos and at times sure wished I could have blamed the software for the problems I had LOL.

Minor crit. Bass could be punchier and add a little snap to it. But that is ever so minor.

Thanks Bapu. I'd appreciate help...is the general advice about how to add punch or a little snap to the bass part?

Thank you Frank. I sure appreciate you listening. I'm sure curious about the bass...it sounds punchy and right on my system and a laptop but not sure about how well it's transferring since Bapu mentioned it.

I wonder of bapu is referring to a character of the performance rather than how the bass is mixed with the other tracks? For example; if that bass part was played by Stanley Clark or someone like that you might hear an occasional snap or pop, maybe a chirpping-slide-marnic, or some characteristic that made the bass line jump to the fore front of the mix now and then. That's not something that would just happen my "mixing", well unless maybe you messed with a transient designer or something. I like the song plenty just the way it is, but I can imagine that the example I described above might add another layer of interest for listening pleasure. I can't wait to hear your next new tune. all the best, mike

Mike you hit exactly on what I was wondering too. Being barely a guitarist and not a bassist and having a great bassist remark and not fully understand was he his saying...could be mixing but playing style is a major factor. No doubt something to consider. I'm glad it's coming across as a "tune" - thanks Mike. Remix in attempt to address a couple of the comments. Original still at first link for those that would like to compare.

Old55 Bravo! Well done, Sir.
Thank you Jan. I didn't like the Remix. Remix 2 and I'm done with this one. Don't trust my ears with it...tired of hearing it for now and moving on. ( I purchased the Concrete Limiter and used it on this version/mix ) Any further comments appreciated for consideration when and if I ever mess with it again.

LIKE almost everything about this, but a couple of things: didn't care for the lead tone. sounds kinda fuzzy, like a sim or something. and the tempo change at 1:07, and the way the drum comes in, just seemed like a cut and paste, without a lot of thought, makes it feel too drum machiny at that point. but the slide, awesome slinky nice.... love the rhythm guitar glissando parts going throughout the main riff... and the smooth mellow breakdown around 2:25, i really dig that. those solo guitar tones seem much better than the higher gain ones... i don't know what kind of rig you are using or how you are capturing your tones.....
it'd be nice to have a key change or something, say, right about the time the mellower section at 2:25 happens, it gets a bit repetitive.. it's the same riff over and over and over, but in the same key... try a few modulations, with the same riff, will make it much more interesting the mix is great

Thanks Bat. Appreciate the thoughts and kudos. Thought I'd add... As I previously mentioned a few times this was put together as a test project...not focused on it being a "tune" or "song". Haven't been able to record in almost 3 years and now a new PC, X3 and software for RMC control with my JBL's. (though that wasn't the only issue with them...some may remember the chemical breakdown of the cabinets which JBL replaced even though the warranty had expired...the won a loyal customer :) All the parts were created as a variety of "sounds" I wanted to test out and see what kind of mix I would or could get and some time focusing on X3 functions/features. I wasn't attempting to write or record a "song". ( although some thinking it is-is a compliment...thanks for that) So comments of instrument tones, song structure etc, isn't really a concern to me-the comments of the mix is and is what I'm concerned with. I believe the RMC on the JBL's is working pretty darn good based on the mix comments...finally some comfort with my DAW.
