Using an android tablet as a real time controller for Sonar X3 possible...?

I think touch screen support makes the most sense, when you can spread the UI for various Sonar modules over different displays, preferably making use of displays almost everybody has already: smart phones and tablets.

A 10"+ tablet would be great for fader control
7" tablets and smart phones would suffice for various FX or soft synth real time controls.

Or imagine running Sonar on your desktop, but having 2 Lenovo Yoga units connected for touch control of any part of Sonar you choose to display on them.

Is this already supported?  Or has anyone attempted such a setup using studioware panels or some other method?

I use it with my Android phone. A bit tricky to set up, but once done, very handy. I mostly use it for the transport controls, though.

Is there anything that would run on a Blackberry tablet?

    Mike,
How are you setting up the Surface to work as a control surface externally? I'd love to do this...

I use Remote Desktop Connection. I was skeptical this was all going to fly since my DAW is still on Win 7. I was pleasantly surprised when I could move faders etc. Mostly I use it as a remote transport control when I record in a room other than the one my DAW is in. The screen is a bit small for full-on mixing though.

It doesn't hold a candle to V-Control IMHO, but I've tried it too and it's definitely your best option on Android!

    Mike,

Don't know much about the remote desktop feature on windows tablets but this sounds really interesting! I would love to have remote control over X3 in the ISO booth but so far my attempts at getting TouchDaw to work on my older android phone have been dismal.

Does remote desktop work the same way ( through a router devoted to the DAW, bluetooth from the tablet? ect ) And when you use it, can you see the Sonar x3 screen set that is active?? And how is the latency?

Ive envied other studios that have the Ipad/V Control setup. You set it up and boom, it just works and the V-window looks just like the Sonar Screen that's in focus.

Plus 1 on the Surface RT.... remote desktop comes built in.  You get your actual DAW screens running on the RT and can walk around the studio and totally control your DAW.

This comes in handy when you are the engineer and musician at the same time.  No more walking back and forth to the desktop machine with a guitar wrapped around your neck. :-)

Remote Desktop Connection is built into Windows. In your Win 8 machine just type in Remote Desktop Connection then enter the name of your DAW (Control Panel : System : Computer Name). You may get a warning about Security Certificates being skewed, just accept that and you should be in. I connect my Surface to a router via WiFi and my DAW is connected to the router by wire. Haven't experienced any latency issues.

I'm currently using it almost exactly as you describe...a remote transport for when I want to record outside of my project studio room...I'm lucky my home has incredible acoustics.

Hope that helps. Let me know if you need more info.

    Regards,
