usb 3.0 Flash drive for Samples

My laptop has card slot and usb 3. It seems like using an SD or flash drive for samples would not be any different than using an external USB 3.0 SSD.
Has anyone done this with success?
Thanks

Yes, I've streamed samples from USB drives as well as complete projects...even done this live with a laptop, and had zero problems. Haven't used 3.0 USB drives, but the 2.0 ones worked fine for playback. It was only when recording lots of tracks that things got dicey.
