Back at work..
and already caught up after enjoying a 10 day break. We decided this year to grill steaks rather than a turkey. Had some 1 1/4" t-bones cut but the real cool thing is our 16 yr grand daughter grilled them and to perfection. My first meal that she cooked up. It was great having all the free time to check out X3 and now I'll work for about 3 weeks and have another 10 days to kick around again. Nice to have a DAW working when one has the time.

Ya, I'm up to like 27 days off a year now, unless I carry some over. Our busiest part of the year is from January till June, so I don't have much opportunity to take any off until the second half of the year. I used to carry a bunch over to the next year, but then it was all the more a challenge to use them up, so now I just take them...maybe carry a day over to next year.
The latest thing for us, my company is encouraging some of us in management to work remotely more often. I am not sure what I think about that. I think it works OK for sales guys, but when you manage people, how do you do that when you are not around to manage the people??? My GM said in my last review that if I wanted to work out of the house 1 day a week, feel free to do so. I think that I am going to do that VERY sparingly. I fear that some penny pinching accountant type will get the idea that people are not needed if they routinely are not in the office. Maybe I am old school, but it doesn't feel right to me, to not go into the office and call it working.
I probably shouldn't worry about it and take advantage of the offer, I have a really good relationship with my GM. With every promotion and career move he has made for himself, he has hand picked me to advance with him. I suspect that he is just throwing me a bone. Still, it just doesn't feel right....so I will probably not make a routine out of it.

Wow... I am sorry. Unless of course, you love your work! If it is not too presumptious, what do you do? I am always interested in knowing what other people do for a living. I always ask my customers. I own a pest control business, though I am no longer in the field very much.. I always loved it and my customer base was and is very affluent. So I always wanted to know what they did. I've done household pest for a former Atlanta mayor, GA Tech coach, Falcons Exec (Reeves son), the 1st pilot hired by Delta airlines who was also the first Delta President, the 3nd Delta president (his wife gave me much of the vintage tube stereo equipment I have), others I can't remember. Movers and shakers... interesting people. So I am always interested in what people do and who they are. We are all interesting. It sounds like you have a great job!! J

I like my job a lot, but I don't love it. I have to many hobbies that I would rather be doing. :-) No, I just don't seriously see how you can do what I do and not be there most of the time. I was thinking to myself, does he really not understand what we do? I work for the largest trade show contractor in the US. We do about 60% of the countries trade shows. We do NAMM in January, along with CES coming up in Vegas in January. I manage a department that can have anywhere from 8- 40 Union Carpenters working on a given day and also a handful of full time salaried employees and 6-10 non-union laborers. On average we probably have 10 - 14 exhibit projects going on at one time, prepping or being built to go to trade shows. They all keep me very busy, seems like there are no shortage of labor decisions to ever be made. I have been lucky enough in the last couple of years to build up a little staff underneath myself and I guess that might be what he is trying to tell me. Sit back and enjoy what we have developed a little. I am actually lying a little low right now because I really don't want to be asked to travel to Vegas for CES. I spend to much time there already and would like to stay away until May.

Hi, You ... had ... STEAK ... for Thanksgiving? Wait until Bapu gets a hold of this for the next CHB song!
As a wise Guy once stated from his holy chapala ... none of the hits, none of the time ... prevents you from becoming just another turkey in the middle of all the other turkeys!

My wife suggested it and since she cooks turkeys for us to make sandwiches I thought it was a great suggestion. It was very cool to have my grand daughter grill them...my first meal prepared by her and it was excellent. Bapu is welcome to the song idea...he could have had steak though. jbow Wow... I am sorry. J, I work for a worldwide chemical company. I can't go into details but I'm more or less my own boss. I spend my days in my office at a computer or driving around in the woods via company truck. I've been doing it for over 20 years....can't say I love it but I try to do it better than what any other could. I can say that retirement is something that I look forward to...if not for the fact that ageing sucks. Hey...we even had a manager from England for a while. He was a funny cat...not a very good manager but couldn't take funny away from him.

If you don't mind me asking, what part of the country do you live. I have n't given retirement too much thought yet, but I did actually start thinking about it last week while I was off and things slowed down enough to catch some thoughts. I am 52 and I am guessing that retirement age will be raised to 67 before I retire, so it is about 15 years down the road for me. I live on the opposite side of Dallas from where I work and it is at best a 45 minute drive into work and close to an hour on the way home. I sure would like to live closer to where I work. We finally just paid off the house last year and I am not sure that I am all that excited about starting up another 15 year mortgage. Our home has not appreciated at the rate of the homes on the other side of Dallas. I don't think Dallas is where I want to retire either. I would like to get out of the city.

I don't complain Mike. I'm glad I have a job but it's a job. I have a 25 minute drive (highway). I'm about 5 hrs NE of you. When Myolpay rolls rocks to the south they land in my yard. Takes a couple of hours but he can rock and roll. What's nice is I've become very proficient at what I do....and nobody but me knows LOL. I can get out anytime I care to and get lost in the woods. Really the hardest part is just making it to the job. I really like the very small community that we live in. Our home is under the Homestead exemption so it's tax free...nice that when we paid it off that was that. There is some little community tax we pay that is like 17 dollars or something. No building codes either...I sure like that. Any ol fool with a hammer can do his thing which has been good for me! LOL. Once you cross that ol Red River hoss....it just don't mean a thing. Uzzz otta know whats I'm sayin' Mike. :)
