Deleting Old Versions of Projects

Suppose I have a folder called Album 1 on my PC disk.  In the Album 1 folder there are various versions of a song: Song V1, Song V2, Song V3, and Song Final.

Now, I have backed up the final version sufficiently, and I want to delete all the previous versions: Song V1, Song V2, Song V3, etc.

It seems that I have to locate all the audio files for each version of each song and delete them.  This is quite tedious.  Is there a faster way to do this?

Why not just save Song Final to a new folder, with the option to "copy audio with project" checked. You'll end up with a fresh folder that contains ONLY the audio that Song Final references, after which you're free to go ahead and delete the old folder.

Sharke, You are probably right and I will probably end up doing that.  Since there are several folders with many songs in each, I was hoping there would be a trick to this.

Thanks.

It's such a simple solution and I didn't even think about it until yesterday when I balked at the prospect of using the clean audio folder function and read a post with this tip. Works perfectly.

Another method is to delete the old project files, and then run CWAF (Cakewalk Audio Finder) tool from. It will identify orphaned audio files no longer needed by any project.

Dave (brundlefly), That sounds like what I need.  Where does one find this mystical utility?

If you've actually opened those backup files, and have one of the tested copies offsite, big magnets from submarine generators up next to your hard drive will clean your platterz almost as good as a zero fill.

I would recommend the "Save As to a different location" route, then you can delete the original folder(s)

But PLEASE ensure you've got "copy audio with project" checked in the Save As dialog box.

Just to explain, doing SAVE AS in one PC location and one external location and then deleting the folder is certainly a foolproof route.  The reason I was looking for something else is that loading each song and resaving is extremely time-consuming.  5 minutes to load and 5 minutes for each of the two saves times 14 songs is three and a half hours just for that one album.

Where does one find this mystical utility?

Where else but the Utilities menu in SONAR?

You can also run cwaftool.exe directly from Shared Utilities in the SONAR program folder without SONAR running. It's a good tool to get to know. Much more powerful, flexible and faster than Clean Audio Folder or re-saving projects when you need to clean up a lot of Per Project folders. Check it out.
