Squall line's a comin!!!
We're currently in the direct path of the winter storm that's moving across the country and are all stocked up with plenty of grub and libations to make it thru. There's a great likelyhood, since this is an ice storm, that we'll lose power. So...should I simply abruptly get cut off in mid post you'll know what happened. When we lose power the only thing that still functions are our cell phones.
I'll keep ya posted. Only I can't type worth a flip on that damn cell phone.

Yep. We're about to get hit as well. It never did get above freezing today, but there wasn't any moisture... Friday and Saturday are going to be a different story. Probably snow and the highs are expected to be in the low 20's (degrees F) or even into the teens. The lows? Well, single digits there. Add to that a strong east wind and wind chills are expected to get down to -20 degrees F.! Brrr!!!

It's here, Olpal. The rungs of my ladder were already caked with ice around 5PM. That last climb was a wee bit scary. As I was driving home this evening, most of the bridged I crossed had already collected some souvenirs. We're expecting a 1/2" of ice on the roads by tomorrow, and I have to work. I filled my door locks and wiped down the weatherstrip with WD40, so I'll at least be able to get into my van in the morning. I've covered the windshield with cardboard. My wife's car is already caked with 1/4" of ice. And I scared up some latex gloves to keep my hands dry. Sometimes working outdoors makes you question your sanity. Fun times ahead.

Moved in fast too. Dropped from 80°F to high of 36 in one day....and dropping still. Prettiest thing I've ever seen was a morning I looked outside into an ice storm. First one I'd seen and wasn't that many years ago.

Keep warm and safe. We're in the low-20's and dropping, with light snow already started and high winds expected soon. Gosh, it really sucks that I work from home and don't have to fight all the inexperienced winter drivers out there...

Stay safe Old Pal. I was under the false impression that the weather out there was usually nice. I am even surprised that Texas is getting hit like that. I guess I don't get out much. We had a warming trend here and it hovered around 55-60 F much of the day. Temps are supposed to drop and we are supposed to get some nasty stuff later on tonight but nothing like a major ice storm or even much snow. We seem to have been in between and in betwixt all of the major stuff by a small margin.

I've got tree limbs down all over, but so far we have electricity. I decided to take advantage and work on a mix (stupid). The electricity blink off for a minute so I'll get to start over again someday with that. I did re-boot and do a proper shutdown....oh well, I didn't get very far with it anyway. Take care ol'pal and remember your neighbors in western AR!

When I was in my teens, we lived in an 18ft. trailor with no electricity, heat, or water during a winter with daily highs around -20°F. A few years later, I survived Chicago winters standing on the L platform well after midnight, feeling a 50 mph wind tear through my cheap jacket while the tracks froze over so badly the trains couldn't run. There were times when hypothermia seemed like a really good idea. As cold as I was, I never wore a snuggie. I couldn't afford one.

We're expecting the brunt of that one to pass just North of us. I hope so. Now we are just in the cold air behind the front. Normal back home in Denver, but they aren't prepared to deal with it down here. My cardboard folded over during the night and got frozen to the hood of my van in layers of ice. I broke both of my ice scrapers chipping ice before dawn. Just as I was getting ready to hit the road, I got a phone call from my supervisor telling me to stay put until further instructions. Around 10:30AM he called back and told me that Charter had suspended all of our service calls for the day. There are a ton of flyover bridges here, and virtually none of them were passable. I'm off tomorrow, so I'll probably break out my torch and melt the ice off of my ladder. I suspect I'll be pretty busy Sunday rehanging downed lines. From the looks of it, most of the country is getting a piece of this one. You guys to the East be safe.

LOL. No, I work for the cable company here. The area I service (Azle) is fairly rural. Mostly long aerial lines and lots of big trees. It's a challenging area to work, but I love it, even though it is a pain in the butt sometimes. I had a desk job for a few years. It was a decent gig, but I was going bonkers confined in the office. I've just spent too many years working outdoors.

I prefer: Work from home, make sure UPS is charged up and plugged in, have warm clothes and hot toddy's handy. (And, @Bob, I was just kidding, but I do love that Glen Campbell song! Makes me miss my baritone guitar though...)
