Green Sleeves (dusted off)

http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=11185701

Green Sleeves

Just a little bit of Christmas music for the season. I recorded this last year. I like this song and have done several versions through the years, as some of you folks know......and this one is a bit on the harder side of the fence. I'm handling all the guitars and piano chores in this. It was recorded in my humble home studio. The guitars start with my Tele and switch a bit on to my SG as the need for "fat sound" increases at the 2 minute mark.

Hope you enjoy. I'll be digging out a few old tunes and dusting them off in the days following.

Hey thanks everyone for listening.  Yeah this is an older tune... recorded last year.

Aside from the 2 new original Christmas songs I have posted, I've really not had too much "free time" in the studio, working instead on some cues for a different project. So I probably won't be doing anything else new for this forum this year...... things got really busy between work and musical project requests.

Glad you're liking it. I might throw a few more old dusty tunes to this forum for grins.

I remember this one Herb....not sure I got a chance to comment on it last time. I like this version. My only crit would be I'd like to hear your drums a little thicker...they seem a bit high endy in the cymbal and snare area. Other than that though...this is great. Performances were all great as usual. Dirty lead guitar was a nice touch. Way to go brother. :)

Funny, I was just watching this Clint Eastwood movie and those guitars reminded me of him riding off into the sunset. Think someone else mentioned the western theme too.

Re: Green Sleeves (dusted off) 2014/01/06 08:48:30 (permalink)
This caught my eye because Greensleeves was the first complete song I learned to play on guitar way back in 1969. I learned the Frederick Noad arrangement, kind of a classical thing, so your version was quite refreshing with its rich guitar solos.

Very clean, great mix and I can hear everything perfectly... At least, if there's something I can't hear, I... well, can't hear it.

I have to admit, though, that I was expecting the SG-based lead much sooner. This could, of course, be written off as unrealistic expectations sets up by the 8-second mind-set perpetrated by our society. I wanted it to go further in its exploration of riff mania, but overall, it's still a great piece and very commendably done.
