RIP Madiba 1918-2013

In honor of Nelson Mandela's life and achievements, I wanted to share a song written with the South African singer/songwriter, Vusi Mhlongo. It wasn't written for Mandela, but it certainly captures the feeling of loss many of us feel right now. Hamba kahle baba - we will miss you greatly, Madiba.

Ntando yami, buyel' ekhaya we
Ntando yami, buyel' ekhaya we
Ntando yami, mina ngiak' khumbula we
Isithandwa sami, mina ngiak' khumbula we

[English translation:
My love, come back home
My love, come back home
My love, I remember
My love, I remember]

very cool song, catchy and edgy at the same time. interesting how the "irish fiddle" (which in realty is a synth, right) fits into the world music sound. and yes, we love sheer amount of drums in your stuff!

Thanks a lot, everybody - I'm really appreciate y'all taking the time to listen.

Frank - glad you're digging our music so much. I have to say though, I like Season 5 the best right now...but maybe it's just because it's the newest ;-) It was all mixed in X2, and final mixes really seem to me to be more open and detailed than any of the earlier releases. Some of that is due to the room, since I'm now in a space where I could build a proper mix environment, but some of the tools that came along with X2 certainly contributed. BTW, I listened to a bunch of your stuff, too - it's really good, man! Nice playing, fo' sho'!

Tom - glad you got a kick out of the liner notes! The guy who wrote the Season 4 notes is Geoff Brady, one of our main percussion players....and yeah, he has a weird sense of humor. We like him though ;-) This is Geoff - he's the guy abusing the big percussion set-up in the middle: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8KBzY_HNLCU

    thanks again, y'all...really!

I always love it when different styles come together, the fusion sometimes creates a song that is better than the sum of its parts.
