Kennedy Center: Led Zepelin
Check it out. Turn it up. Skip the inane introduction by Jack Black and go straight to the tribute performances by Foo Fighters, Kid Rock, Lenny Kravitz - and the absolutely killer KILLER rendition of Stairway to Heaven with Anne Wilson on lead vox + orchestra and choir + Bonham Jr. on drums. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=rOy5TCB9JMw

Saw the Heart segment recently, really stunning. Moved the Zep guys almost to tears by the look of them.

Foo Fighters and Kid Rock were superb, hadn't seen those performances before. GREAT arrangement of Ramble On. Kravitz was a bit..bleh.

Yeah, the Stairway segment almost brought me to tears myself. Very well done.

Heart was always the best Zeppelin cover band. They played our high school a couple of times. Noon hour concert for 10 cents one time, an evening dance the other. They've been playing LZ a looong time. Ya...ya...that was back in the 70's before some of you were born. I'm glad I was there to witness it all.

That would have been cool to see. Ann could really belt it out for a girl. She and Pat Benatar were the best female rock singers IMO.

Before they became international superstars, Heart was one of the best cover bands I'd ever heard. They did Beach Boys covers, too, and better than the frickin' BBs themselves. And not just the easy ones, either; their version of Good Vibrations was particularly rollicking. I remember hearing them do the entire second side of Abbey Road at the old Aquarius Tavern on Dollar Pitcher night. Those were wonderful times.

Oh no! That's something I would have wanted to hear! In my experience many "cool" guys look down at Heart untill they see their live performances.

You want to hear some excellent Heart... search "Heart Seattle"... I think it was 2003 or 2006. Probably some of the best YouTube stuff out there.... Next to the Who in NY Firemans concert.

Surprisingly good audio quality on that link, thanks mixmkr. But Heart fans might nitpick that that's not the "real" Heart in that video, but rather the Wilson sisters + the bass player from Alice in Chains + some other guys they found in a bar band.

Don't get me wrong ... I love Dave Grohl ... but that was a lazy performance on the drums. The intro wasn't quite right, he played 1/4 notes on the hats (Bonham drove that train by playing straight 1/8's with both hands) and he improvised the signature ending.
