If I paid for the Editor upgrade for Melodyne does that mean it will work in PT 11, etc?

Sort of curious since PT 11 is using AAX 64. I'm recently running PT 11 along side X3c and the AAX thing has really been an obstacle with some stuff like UAD, etc. I know this is more of a PT or Celemony question but since I originally came into Melodyne through X3 maybe some others have been down a similar road. I'm still in the discovery stage with it at this point as I haven't done anything with pro tools since version 7.

Cheers, William

Do Celemony have an AAX version of Melodyne? If they do there's no reason why it shouldn't work. Pro tools however doesn't have ARA integration so Melodyne will only work as a plugin inside PT. I know there's an RTAS version which I installed for PT9HD which I have but don't recall AAX being available for installation.

There's always Google, you know. My second hit on "Melodyne AAX" was this
http://www.pro-tools-expe...-bit-is-available.html

Though it obviously won't have ARA, which is half of what makes it great in Sonar.

I just went to the Celemony site and looked at their FAQs. The answer is that 32 and 64 bit AAX is supported.

The Melodyne Editor upgrade will definitely work in PT11.  And it seems to work just fine - although after using the ARA integration in Sonar Melodyne is somewhat annoying to use in PT.

Funny.  I was never even tempted to try Studio One to get ARA integration of Melodyne.  I figured it was no big deal.  I was used to the "transfer" method of using Melodyne and didn't think it really would make that much difference.  After using X3 for a while I now see that ARA integration is a much nicer way to work.  Strange - I seem to have far fewer PT projects now that X3 is here.  And with the speed with which PT has historically been updated to catch up with their competition it will probably be a LONG time before they have ARA.

How long did Sonar (and others) have 32-bit (say nothing of 64-bit) audio, Clip Gain, 64-bit OS support, etc. before PT got on board?  PT does admittedly have some nice features.  It seems virtually every DAW has a few features (based on individual preferences and workflow) that are useful/attractive/interesting.  Sonar may not be the first to offer some of these enhanced workflow features but often they are.  Or quite quickly offer something as good or even better.  Even though most of us would admit that we could easily make music with the feature set that has been available with most DAW's for several years it certainly keeps things interesting and more fun to see and use the new features (such as ARA) that are offered.  Personally I think Sonar is as progressive as any DAW when it comes to new features.  I look forward to each new release of Sonar - knowing that there will be something that I find useful (or indispensable) that I didn't even know I needed.  ARA integration of Melodyne was one of them.

Thanks all, I could see the AAX64 compatibility on the celemony site but I couldn't really tell if the upgrade I bought was somehow tied exclusively to X3. Since I installed PT 11 I've been slightly caught off-guard by the AAX format. UA hasn't released their plug-ins in AAX yet and some of the others I use aren't compatible yet either. I was surprised to find none of my plugins showing up. Doh!

I'm sure Avid are just about ready to announce the demise of PT since I finally have a license and I'm usually the last one into the mine.  For nearly a decade I've gotten on just fine without it. This year I had to pass on several engineering jobs because I didn't have Pro Tools. They were all major label projects that have been completed, sound great, and will be released in early 2014. I can't really see myself doing any heavy mixing in PT but I'm just trying to get familiar enough with the program that I can bring in a job, export what I need to work in X3 and then re-package it into the PT session or just do overdubs and send the client on their way. As the years have gone by I find myself enjoying the recording/working with the band part of the job much more than mixing.

Wouldn't you just transfer the license to an iLok then download the version you need to the computer on which you have ProTools? Unless they are both on the same machine...

It's a full Melodyne license. You are allowed to authorize two computers simultaneously, to facilitate desktop/laptop or work/home kind of setups.
