Session Drummer Question

Hi all!  New to the forum, maybe a couple of newbie questions.  Thanks for any help!  Sorry if this is a little long.

FYI:  I am pretty certain my V-Studio is on the latest version.  I have X3 Studio, also latest version.  It's running on a PC with Windows 8.  Pretty basic setup:  V-Studio into computer.  I have a Joe Meek external pre-amp (the 3Q) as well as a Behringer external headphone amp.  Two Mackie powered monitors.  I also have Eventide stomp box effects which could be brought into this if need be.

Question:  How do I lock session drummer with the rest of the recording so that when I press play on the VS everything starts together in time?  I can't seem to get that to happen reliably.

Thanks!

Len

Instead of playing the patterns inside Session Drummer, you should drag them to the MIDI track that is driving Session Drummer. SONAR will play that MIDI track in time with the rest of project and so the drums will be in time as well.

Thanks!  I will try that, although I thought that was what I was doing.  I was trying so much I could have been confused though.
    Just to check:
    - insert a MIDI track into the tune
    - Drag and drop session drummer pattern into that
    - When I hit play that should lock it all together and start together.
    That about right?

    Thanks!

that should work, please make sure the midi file is then dropped right at the beginning of the bar.

oh and by the way, I insert the soft synth (in this case the session drummer) first, then the midi file!

Thanks! I seem to have gotten it to work. I think the problem I was having was that I wasn't always pressing the play button on session drummer first. I just need to practice with the software more frankly.

I'm still not getting this right.  I have a feeling that there is some simple thing I have missed.  I have a few tunes with session drummer and I get the same problem with all of them so I assume I am just missing something.

I open the tune and session drummer is there, with a pattern in the track.  When I press play on the VS I get the audio with no session drummer.  I have to open session drummer, press play on it, which starts it playing out of time with the music.  With SD playing, when I press play on the VS, that resets everything back to the beginning locked together.

I thought I had saved the tune with play on SD pressed.

What am I missing?  Again, I assume it is something fairly straightforward- a button not pushed or something.

Is there a Session Drummer tutorial somewhere?

    Thanks!

Shutting off SD looper seems to have solved the problem BUT- what if right now I don't want to make up a drum part- I just want it to repeat a beat for me to play to and I will get the drum part later.  Do I have to drag and drop the file 50 times so I get something as long as the song, or is there a way to get this to work with the SD looper engaged?

Maybe I shouldn't be using SD at this point?  Is there a loop sample of drums that I can use that will repeat itself while I record the other tracks?
    Thanks!

You can use MIDI notes 27 though 34 to play the patterns and note 24 to turn off Session Drummer. The notes are shown at the bottom of the PRV as A through H and **Off**. If you have the loop  button enabled in Session Drummer adding one of the notes 27 though 34 to the Session Drummer MIDI track will cause that pattern to play from the time the note is encountered on the MIDI track until the transport stops.

Sorry, it is the Piano Roll View. You may want to spend some time working tutorial #4 in the help, it goes over some of the MIDI basics.

Whenever I use sd3, I would unload all
Midi patterns to prevent accidental lay triggering the paterrns.
