Mine arrived today (Monday 12/23).  Will install tomorrow.

Zo--since you asked.   My NI harddrive is a small Chinese made Chips & More USB drive that is 3in x 4.75in x 1/2in.  Mine looks new--has a plastic film over the top; it has no scratches or dents.  However, it is clearly an inexpensive HD, which is what I expected. It is the same quality HD I have received from BIAB a few years ago when I purchased their Omni or Eveything pak. It is good only for transferring the files to my Sample library drive; better than having a box full of DVD's and more convienent than having to load DVD's one at a time, but not good for anything else other than just storing the original K9U products in one place.

mine arrived , a black drive that looked as if it had already been using by the state of the sticker.. not overly impressed that it's supposed to be "new" and hardly looks it.

Every company that send software on drive sends cheap drives.  They are only for installation convenience.  No one should expect anything different.  You're not going to get a free production drive for free.

So I installed K9U last night.  This was so easy, effortless, smooth and relatively quick.  Not having to load DVD's every few minutes was so nice.  I just pointed it where to install and it did it all for me.  When finished, it took me to my NI authorization center and that went quick and well also.

Have some questions about Kontakt 5 and how it handles non NI libraries(like Hollow Sun) as it does not seem to "see" the third party libraries in the same library page the way Kontakt 4 did, but I will ask you guys about that after I have had a chance to play with it and perhaps figure it out for myself.

Not exactly so in my experience.  With Kontakt4 library, I was able to just insert non licensed third party libraries like HollowSun or Orange Tree directly into the Kontakt 4 Library file/directory/folder and these showed up fine.  However, in my version of Kontakt5 this has not worked.  While I put for example, Orange Tree or HollowSun libraries in the same folder/directory as Kontakt5's library, these third party libraries did not show up in the Directory of K5.  However, I found a work around for me.  I took my Kontakt4 library folder, copie it and inserted the third party libraires into it, then in Kontakt5 I used the "add library" function to add that K4 library into K5's directory.  Now those third party libraries that did not show up within my Kontakt5's library, DO now show up in the K5's Directory under that Kontakt4 library heading.

I have no idea why the extra libraries did not show up when inserted directly into Kontakt5's library, but this workaround works okay for me and now I have Kirk Hunter Strings, Hideaway Studios, Hollow Sun, Orange Tree Samples and others showing up in Kontakt 5's Directory (under the banner of Kontakt4 library).  [I suspect the problem is the the new Kontakt 5 library does not have the "kontakt5-info.nkc or Kontakt5-info.nkx" files, but these files are in the Kontakt4 library and are useful or needed to have libraries show up in the Directory.]

BTW, I know I could just use the file menu and point Kontakt5 to the subdirectory, but I like using Kontakt5's Directory system and it works now for me although by "tricking it" with the Kontakt4 library.

You cannot import non-official Kontakt libraries as you've discovered they will not show up in Kontakt's Library tab.

now I have Kirk Hunter Strings, Hideaway Studios, Hollow Sun, Orange Tree Samples

Use the QuickLoad feature, it rocks.
With Quickload you can create you own easy access category layout from unsupported Kontakt sample libs (or even from supported libraries if you need a more manageable personalized layout).

If you search you'll find that there are a number of YouTube videos on how to use it,
here's one: Using Kontakt Quick-Load to Manage Unsupported Sample Libraries

From what I recall you have to manually update your QuickLoads every time you get a new Kontakt version.

Thanks STEVEN:
Yes, I know about QuickLoad and that is a good option.  Thanks.  There also use to be a program called Kontakt Library Manager which allowed you to edit or add to a third party library and somehow make it readable in Kontakt's Directory.  Sadly, that program is nowhere to be found anymore.  The sites that say they have it are too dangerous for my tastes.

I appreciate your suggestion.

Mine arrived today, cheap black plastic drive with a sticker on it. Flipping it over reveals a "Chips & More" logo which explains what is going on:

Chips & More is basically an emergency electronics distributor. They are a company you go to when your production line has been overwhelmed and you need to fill orders fast. That is precisely what happened to NI with the big sale they did. They ran out of stock, and generally most custom production lines like their nice metal drive have a few months lead time. So they contracted Chips and More to quickly get them stuff to ship out.

Just because the drives came in plastic cases doesn't mean that they were inexpensive - low volume, rush processing isn't cheap.

I'm happy that N.I. sold more than they anticipated and hopefully they made a killing.  That'll mean that they have more money for developing new goodies for future versions of Komplete.
