X3 Issues I'm Having

Hi - long time SONAR user here but brand new to "X" after living with 8.5 for a long time now - just got X3c on a brand new computer. Overall I'm liking it and it has some really cool features. I am having a few problems, however, and not having much luck searching the forums (I haven't been on the forum in years it seems).

Anyway - not sure if these are known issues or what, but here's an initial list after a few days working with it.
  1. The system hangs on audio export on some exports. This seems to be related to the 64 bit engine option. If it's on, some exports work, others hang and I have to force out. If 64 is off, no problems.
  2. Automation modes (overwrite/touch/latch) area great idea but don't seem to "Stick". For example, I'd have it in touch mode and it would work for awhile and then start exhibiting the overwrite mode behavior. It's like it forgets the mode or something?
  3. Just seems sluggish - in particular starting and stopping transport ... for example I hit stop (spacebar) and it keeps going for a second. Is this a setting somewhere?
  4. Multiple little issues with Melodyne essential. I plan to upgrade very soon to editor, but so far not working as well as Melodyne plug-in was working for me in 8.5 One issue is that the scroll bar cursor in Melodyne is never "synced" with the audio. Melodyne scroll line is always ahead of the audio. Also - it won't reliably stay sync'ed or scroll with the track view scroll. Sometimes they're on together, but sometimes Melodyne won't move to where I click and start in SONAR, and often Melodyne window won't scroll when playback gets to the end. I click around a bit and then maybe it will start working again - but no reliability there!
I know I have some learning curve here, and I suspect there's probably some things in config, ini, and preferences I need to work on. (Anyone have some sort of punch list for those?) But some of these issues, and I'm sure I'll have more, are of real concern. As a full time, pro studio, I have to have VERY low tolerance for stuff not working correctly or at least predictably.

Thanks for any responses. I'll keep reading and searching the threads too.

1. Leave the 64bit Double Precision Engine option off for now. There are known bugs in x3c when this option is enabled.

You might want to provide more details about your environment. As you might expect configuration is system dependent. If time is a consideration, calling tech support at your earliest opportunity is the fastest way I know of to get answers.

+1, and please give us a system configuration.

#3 is system dependent, so a good start is to do a driver check, and then take a look at your buffer settings. I found the best file to set these with initially is the X3 Demo Project, mute the final mix track, and play the rest. ASIO mode with drivers specific to your audio interface is preferred.

Some good advice from FastBikeyBoy a while ago is good here:

Start with the ASIO buffer at 128 (Preferences->Audio->Driver Settings->ASIO Panel...), and I/O buffers at 512 (Advanced Mode: Preferences->Audio->Synch and Caching)
  1. Set preferred audio buffer.
  2. Start playback.
  3. If it drops out or other issues adjust I/O buffers. Try 512 for both as a starting point.
  4. Repeat steps 2 & 3. Try adjusting buffers both up and down until happy. 256 jumps should do.
  5. If after trying all sizes up to 1024 you still have issues go back to step 1 and increase audio buffer.
  6. Repeat as necessary until you find the "magic" combination for your setup.

Hi - I found that Sweetwater had set me up with MME drivers and when I switched to ASIO, things started working better for sure!

4. if you have any notes selected in Melodyne it will stop scrolling, regardless of playback state. Simply click in empty space to deselect whatever you have selected and it will begin to scroll again.

Very Good to know! That probably explains much of what I was seeing.

Just in case you are new to Win7... I saw your other post and "just in case" you have Realtek enabled when using your interface with X3, this post may also help you.

Basically, Win7 needs to see you interface but not have it assigned as default to give X3 ASIO access. If you do not force Win7 to do this, you will get sporadic issues.
