Help with Session Drummer please

Hey, trying to replace a kick drum track with a kick from session drummer 3.  Just downloaded X3 studio.  Anyway, I can get the midi notes copied onto a new track but when I paste the kit, It plays a different part of the kit instead of just the kick drum.  I have the Midi note set to C3 in the Audiosnap options.  I guess my question is what an I doing wrong and/or how do I figure out what midi note each piece of the kit is?

Thanks, Keith

There is a table in the Session Drummer help that shows the note mapping. Right-clicking the instruments at the top of the mixer view in Session Drummer also shows the instrument name/note mapping. The instrument name is also displayed on the left-hand side in the Piano Roll View. The PRV may be the best place to go first because it also shows the notes being played.

PRV just shows all of the pieces of the kit being played in ascending order.  Can't find any specific note for the kick.  Couldn't find anything in session drummer either.  Right clicking the kick just says note 36 which I can't even put into audiosnap options.  Very confused.

C3 (note number 36) should be correct for Session Drummer's Kick, and you should see the note events on that line in the PRV. If not you can click the drum name on which the events are showing up to select them all, and Shift+drag them down to "BassDR" (Shift keeps them from moving in time).

P.S. If you right-click the area where the drum names are shown in the PRV, you can select "Use these Note names instead", choose 0... 127, and you'll see the corresponding note numbers.

OK, buy why is the kick drum not playing when I have c3 selected?
Instead, I get every other part of the kit, one note at a time.  Gotta be something simple?

OK, WTF?  Did the same thing on the snare with D3 the note and it worked perfectly?  Why not on the kick track?  GRRRRRRRR

You are right, it has to be something simple and hard to diagnose remotely. Make sure the kit you are loading is playing a proper kick drum sample in 36. When the notes are recorded in the MIDI track, make sure they are hitting the correct instrument.

They aren't.  That's the problem.  I'll try another kit and see what happens.  The snare in that same kit worked fine though.

Nope.  Not the kit.  When I put D3 in audiosnap for the snare it worked perfectly.  The kick just keeps playing ascending sounds on the kit then it starts over when it gets to the end.  Very frustrating.

You can also load individual instruments by right-clicking on the instrument and selecting an appropriate sfz file.

I tried that.  Still plays ascending notes in PRV.  All of the other tracks, Snare and toms work just fine.

I might know what the problem is.

Shot in the dark here, but I had a weird thing happening yesterday that sounds slightly similar.

I had used audio snap to replace a snare, using SD3 as well. I noticed that below the standard keyboard notations to the left in the piano roll there were some additional labels that were not the standard thing (no letter/number, but a few things--can't remember exactly). I pressed one of the keys (using my mouse) and suddenly was hearing different notes, in sort of a rhythmic fashion, play, just going on and changing sounds. I didn't put it together at the time that it was going through all the sounds, but that's probably what I was hearing. I finally figured out how to stop it though--looked down at the bottom of the key notations and saw one which was labeled "Stop." That did the trick, and everything worked fine.

Can't say for sure your problem is in any way related, but it sure sounds similar. Let me know if you see what I describe, and if the "stop" key solves the problem?

The octave below the Session drummer instruments, notes 27 though 34 trigger the MIDI patterns loaded into Session Drummer, note 24 turns off the patterns. This may be used to play the Session Drummer patterns instead of dragging the patterns to the MIDI track.
