Neyrinck V-Control Pro Users???
Checking out the possibilities with this remote control app for Sonar X3 and have a question about the Pro version. I downloaded the free version to check if it was compatible with our system and of all ones I've tried so far ( Touch Daw, Daw Remote HD, AC-7 HD ) this app seems to be heads and shoulders above rest. Installation is a snap and the response is impressive. The free version just allows you to 'View" the V Window so there is no way to tell exactly 'what' X3 parameters you can adjust in this window. It displays a complete view of the 'in focus' window which is awesome but no info on how much control you have over it. Can all the parameters be adjusted as if you were clicking and dragging with a mouse or just specific "touch enabled" parameters in X3?? Thanks in advance...

No you can use it as if it's a mouse, although you'd be a lot quicker with an actual mouse ;) The main thing I don't like is that you have to keep adjusting which part of the window you want to see. But that's more of a workflow thing, the application itself works great, I use it a lot when I'm tracking myself. Definitely the best I've seen, and kind of a wonder how well it works considering Sonar's shakey Mackie Control implementation.

Thanks for the reply, So basically anything you can tap on inside of the V-window can be adjusted?? Assuming you can make it big enough to tap. From the Free version, it seems you only have two levels of zoom inside the V-window so I get what you mean by constantly resizing it to navigate the project and I am on a Ipad Mini so its even smaller. On the other hand, its the only app ive seen so far that allows you to navigate anything really. All the others seem to just emulate the Mackie Control Surface in one way or the other.

You've described how it works and my problem with that perfectly ;) And yeah even if cramped it's still really useful. Even if it's just to see if your recordings have clipped, where exactly you are in your arrangement, if you need to adjust an effect, etc. It's by the way a full shared desktop type thing so I can for instance also add some reverb on my E-MU Patchmix app (proprietary mixer app for my soundcard with zero latency monitoring and basic fx).

i could never get v control to work. AC-7 worked for me so that is the way I went. It is awesome for transport control when recording. Mixing I still use my behringer and mouse.

I use it as a transport, remote and virtual screen when I'm at my drum set. Works great for that!

I tried out the free version. I wasn't impressed with the free version and the program that you have to install for the wireless interface requires the PC to be on line. I didn't like that and rejected it. I have a Frontier Tranzport but have been having some flakey problems and looking for a potential replacement in case the Tranzport dies and the reason I tried the Nyrick.

It does require that it is accessed through a wireless router to be able to provide wireless operation but the router doesn't have to be online. We have an in studio network that is just for project backup and has no internet access so there is no obvious hit in performance for Sonar like there would be if programs and apps were constantly trying to update themselves online. Connecting to this was a snap with the included Neyrinck driver, worked instantly with literally no setup. There was much more tweaking with the other rtpMIDI based apps ( Touch Daw, Daw Remote HD, AC-7 Core HD ) to get them to work and each one has had odd behavior quirks that V-Control has so far not exhibited. This is not an endorsement, just an observation. But like all things that "just work well" there seems to be that obvious correlation between performance and price ( 50 bucks!!!! Yikes )

Alex - Yes I-Thingies only. I am sure the issue was something with my router and/or home network. But even ad-hoc i could not get v-control to work. Ad hoc finally worked with Ac-7, so that is the way I went. I had the exact opposite experience as Featherlight with neyrinck and did not get much help on their forums so I dropped it. I would definitely try the free ones before I spent any money at the APP store. As an aside, the rtpMIDI software you have to install on your PC for AC-7, also works for most other Ipad midi apps that are available. (there are quite a few.....) You also have to install apple bonjour. (or the full itunes, but I hate itunes so I just installed bonjour) Once you get it up and working seems pretty stable, only annoyance is I have apple software on my DAW... Arrghhh!

For me V-Control was also by far the easiest to set up. Not to mention it does a whole lot more than any of the others I've seen. I also have TouchDAW on my Android and while it is definitely the best option for that platform, there is really no comparison. I like Lemur too as a remote controller but mostly for editing synths or doing weird stuff. As a DAW controller I don't think anything currently matches V-Control with its extensive bidirectional communication and V-Window. +1 on installing just Bonjour btw. Worked fine for me. EDIT: Just mean to say it's definitely an app to check out for those who know TouchDAW and have or are planning to get an iPad (Mini).

No, it doesn't require the PC to be online (as in, connected to the Internet, if that's what you mean). It requires a LAN network, so you just need to create one with no Internet connection, disable the Internet connection and antivirus software, enable the new connection, connect the iPad to the new network, load up the Ney-Fi software on the computer, and away you go. Pricey, but it works very well with Sonar.

you can also go ad-hoc network (no router) and connect ipad straight to PC wireless. (lowest latency, but cuts off all other wireless access....though when you are recording this is not a bad thing) V control and AC-7 support this. JR

Yes, I'm doing that (maybe I didn't explain correctly) using a USB LAN adapter. Only the iPad and the PC are on the network.
