Todays Craigslist find!

Nice little Epi SG. Dad said the kid played for about a week. Kid is now in college and needs money. Glad to help out. $100.00.

Put a good polish on it, and a new set of GHS Boomers 09-42s. Really like the neck on this, but I fear the pickups, nut, and tuners will have to go soon.

    Cool deal Randy!!

Just be really careful when dealing with people on CL.....

I've seen a lot stuff on CL I'd like to get, but I'm scared to get anything from these unknown people. Just last week (in LA I think) a father was going to buy some electronic item (I think for a $1000) for his teenage son, and to surprise him took the son along for the purchase to the sellers house. The seller shot the father and took the money....the son got away, but is obviously feeling guilt amongst other things.

This type of thing is happening more and more all over the country, so please be careful.

That looks like a brand new instrument. For that price you can't really go wrong.

I'm pretty sure you being in the car business have already heard about the scams on CL regarding cars. I seen a deal that was too good to be true on a car. I contacted the seller and it was we don't have the car here, it is at so and so blah blah blah. I knew right away.I looked into it and the same individual was using the same sell with different pictures. All they wanted was a small "deposit".

Instruments are another thing. If the owner is close and I cover my tracks I have no problem looking at something from CL. The only problem in my area is that most of the prices the sellers want for used gear are new gear prices.  I don't go to CL to pay top dollar.

     Congrats on that nice find!

Nice find Randy!  I like how the reflection hits the top edge.

Even if you have to put some work into it, I think the price still makes it a steal.

Thanks Mesh, I'm a pretty experienced buyer on CL. I ALWAYS ask to meet them somewhere public, even if it's a parking lot. I've only gone to one guys house and that was after I met him at a music store and followed him home to buy a Roland TD8 set. Most folks would rather meet somewhere other than their home anyways. I know I wouldn't want "me" showing up at my door. As those who have met me in person will attest, I'm 6'6", scarred up, broken and bent nose, and a bad attitude.

    Indeed good to know.

I have sold a couple of things earlier this year but really always felt hesitant. Most of the replies I've received I simply ignored. There are certain red flags for which I could be accused of being prejudiced but which lead me to simply ignore certain buyers. The fact is that I didn't need money that badly to take any risk. The slightest bad feeling = no deal.

Last time I wanted to visit CL, I googled it and the first thing that came up was a article about a guy who'd been shot in Carolina IIRC after meeting two guys who wanted to buy his car or something.

The thing is that, in this case, being a big strong guy probably works against you because if they really want your money, they know they have to opt for a much more radical solution. You can't expect a loyal fight from a bunch of scums and parasites like that. A little old lady might actually have a better chance.

Still, - the man's alive and well, and he has a brand new guitar - so congrats on the SG Randy. :)
