Reimagine - an alternative message/song concept to John Lennon's 'Imagine'
Hey there everyone in Cakewalk-land. We're new here to the new board. Our song was posted in the older version of this forum a while back by friend and long-time board member, but it fell off the map for some reason. So hopin' ya don't mind, we thought we'd join the board (official-like) and share the song with you once again. www.youtube.com/flagrantregardwww.soundcloud.com/flagrantregard/reimagine The song has garnered some attention - some good, some not so good (which was to be expected). Some feel we've screwed with the 'holy grail' (which we think is somewhat ironic). If ye like it, we'd love to hear your thoughts. If ye don't, we'd STILL love to hear your thoughts (fire at will - we can take it.) We hope to get into the groove of 'repayin' the favor' and listening/commenting and critiquing everyone else's material when we can. Been a while, but we look forward to getting back to that. Best to all of you and thanks in advance!

Hi Martin. Unfortunately, you have to wait until your post count reaches 25 before you can post links. So you may need to add a space here and there to be able to spell it out.

this is very clever, in many levels. musically, lyrically and in its sense of humor (if I get it right, you guys do not seem to be narrow-minded die-hard christians). I am liking it, and I am surprised by myself. I was ready to "fire", but no need to!

I just checked it out Martin. Loved it! I could never stand Lennon's message of "Let's deny the Lord's existence, and the validity of the Bible, so we can have our Utopian world where nobody ever disagrees about anything." So consequently, I couldn't stand the song. Love your version. Thank you for sharing it!

I listened last year when Scotty posted a link, and announced a mystery artist that some of us regulars might know..? I remember catching some heat for saying I liked it better than the original version by that other guy... anyway I agree with Leadfoot... do we know each other..? edit; I just wanted to say that I really loved that other guy, and adored most of his music...

Yeah, that thread got ugly... Hard to know what to make of this still..I have no particular regard for the original, and I'm an atheist, so the message/concept of this remake is lost on me. It seems a bit like Lynyrd Skynyrd -'reimagining' 'Southern Man' instead of writing 'Sweet Home Alabama'.. Production and performances are great though.

Just a friendly warning that post probably comes close to violating the board TOS. Does not bother me but posts like this have been flagged before.

Well, I'm with Leadfoot. This take though sounded good to my ears and the instrumentation, vocals, lyrics and mix were all good. Thanks for sharing and the message is right on. Merry Christmas!! Peace and Blessings, John

Whether I or anyone else agree or disagrees was not my point. In a nation that has 85%of it's population with some Christian background, most will agree with his message. There's a good reason the TOS tries to keep the board free of political and religions opinions. I think the production and vocals are good.

Hey all! Thanks for all the gracious compliments or critiques. Nice to be heard and nice to get feedback. What (other than the tenets of our faith) inspired the piece, was the work of the group known as 'THE FAB FOUR' who released a set of Christmas songs all done to the exact instrumentation, tone and vocal chops of the Beatles. This collection of songs has proven to be our favourite Christmas album, but also the inspiration for Reimagine. youtube.com/watch?v=pJXMKt2UYA4
Check out their stuff on Youtube and iTunes. You will definitely (if you're of a Christian background, esp.) get a kick out of this and want to throw this stuff on the sound-system around Christmastime. Keep the feedback coming, if you wish. :-) As Always, FR

You actually sound like another forum member called Groovendroad or something like that, I may have pooched his handle. As well as like Mr. Lennon. It's actually a pretty cool tune, I see that you've taken liberties with the lyrics to Imagine :-) And the melody, but it's creative, and a nice song. Merry Christmas.

Thank you very much NOTNAT! Glad you enjoyed that! Larry Norman was a great inspiration to me. To always write what you felt like writing (rock, blues, folk - whatever hits you at the time). Also a very interesting thinker. Was a pleasure to meet as well, but we'll save that story for another day. :-) Best to you! FR
