Desktop PC Placement
I'm trying to reorganize my music room and not sure where I should put my new desktop PC bc I'm not sure if it's safe to put it near my subwoofer or monitor speakers?
All the speakers are shielded but I'm not sure if the vibrations will cause problems with my PC. I've used laptops for the past 8 years, so they were always right in front of me and not near speakers but I just built a new desktop and have 2 x 23.6" Monitors and a 21.5" 10 point touchscreen.
Where do you guys place your desktops? If you can post pictures that would be great!

I would guess that if your speakers are going to shake your computer apart, they are probably going to destroy your hearing anyway, so it may not matter so much where you put the box. The days when a passing truck would cause your hard drive heads to crash are pretty much a thing of the past. The usual question about computer placement is how do I keep the fan noise from distracting me while mixing through my speakers. I place my computer (tower) in an adjacent room, but that is probably overkill, unless you are recording in the same small room with the machine. Even then a lot of people do not find computer noise an issue.

just google around re: control room setups and diagrams or design, multimonitor setups, and other related stuff like bass traps... also should look at type of/shape of room in setting things up... maybe google IK ARC2 youtubes as they have some ARC measurement diagrams which might help... get creative with your googling descriptions to depict your situation... It's placement for accurate mixing, not vibrations hitting your laptop that'll getcha... I'm upgrading computer, acquiring ARC2 and gonna be reconfiguring everything and figure I'd try and get it right(er?) this time....

Mine too. But I built a very quiet computer also. If you do put it on the floor remember not to put it on carpet as it will impede the air-flow. Mike

Both of my so-called "desktop" computers are quite large and one of them even has casters. I don't think that they're really meant to sit on a desk.

My Two Cents: Start with your desktop in easy reach of all else, BUT, also start with ultra long cables (within distance specs of course) so that once you are done with the near constant fooling with the PC while you set up, you can move it to a soundproofed, e-mag safe ( and still accessible occasionally) location, without rewiring it. The long cables serve double duty, letting you behind the PC easily, and allowing the move later on. Wire is pretty cheap. In my avatar pic at left, both Tracking Room PCs are in the left, underdesk bay, which is right next to the closet they will eventually reside in, the thru-wall port is already in place. Once there, I will soundproof as needed, there is crawlspace access for easy cooling if necessary, and I usually don't worry much about e-mag since I gave up CRT monitors years ago. YMMV.
