what am I doing wrong ?

Trying to record an Akai Sudio MPC I recently bought in Sonar X3e Producer-seems simple enough, right ?
I am getting an audio output showing on the meters for the selected track and the master; but when I add the MPC as a soft synth and arm-record some sounds there is no midi clip showing during or after the recording session.
The waveform display shows the sounds but disappears when I freeze the track

If I add the MPC  as an audio track and configure the input for the MPC the red record button disappears

Ive been banging my head against the wall the past 2 weeks late late nights trying to solve this for myself, but I just cant seem to get around this issue.

I also have an Akai Max25 controller and can record accordingly with no problems.

Thank you in advance

How is your MPC hooked up? Also, are you recording the  MIDI data or audio from the MPC into Sonar?

but when I add the MPC as a soft synth

Soft synth?? The MPC is not a soft synth. Its not virtual, its physical, so it cannot be a soft synth.
    This maybe your problem.

    Thank you for your interest

The MPC is connected via USB (2.0, in the back panel of the MB, using  W7 64 btw)
The MPC functions through a soft interface either alone or within the sonar environment as a plug in.
I can export tracks as a midi file or audio from the MPC and insert into Studio- but this interrupts the natural workflow that Sonar provides.

I believe I should be able to record a track that I can play in Sonar; but it seems all the variations and tinkering have not yet yielded the desired result.

Is this another way of asking "How to record the audio output of a plug-in?"
If so, the most recent version of this question is here http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/3000593

thank you---Unfortunately, I have to leave for work now- I will try and see what happens when I get back. I will post if I am successful or not. Thanks again.

I had previously come across that thread in my quest. hmmm, I am begining to think that I need to route through an audio interface- I tried the Virtual Audio Cable but couldn t control the record levels in the demo. I am thinking I might need an audio interface such as the akai eie o here.

or, am I barking up the wrong tree ?

UPDATE: FYI anyone else coming across this thread, I went back to the Virtual audio cable and tinkered a bit and found it did the job both trial and purchased version- a fair bit cheaper than the EIE interface too.

Just a friendly suggestion to the fellows at Cakewalk, you might find a bit of coin with a simple record-able loopback vst that protects against feedback
