Someone dare me to buy a UA 6176.
Yeah, go ahead. Try it. The special is over at the end of the month. UA 6176 purchase gets a free UAD2 Quad card as a rebate (and I bump the capacity of my UAD 2 Solo card occasionally.) I've been watching every 1176 that has come on Ebay and not many show up at bargain prices. That plus a 610 (and I love my M610). Geez, it's not going to take much to hit my tipping point.

Hi Dave, I think you owe it to yourself to go ahead with that purchase today! You know you will regret it later if you don't... There, did that help any? I've been keeping my eye on a UAD2 Quad special bundle but just can't swing the $1300 right now... MERRY CHRISTMAS my Friend! Rick
Purrrfect Audio DAW here. Wow!...

Do it. Do it. I've got a pair of Purple MC77 1176 clones and I luvs them. I love my LA610 mk1s too. Plus you can make your self a killer clear acrylic rack case to show all the patch cables and stuff. Maybe use a blue LED lighting scheme back there or something like that. :-) Happy holidays.

Nice thing with the 6176 is you can use the 610 and 1176 separately. Love my LA-610, but there are times I wish I could use just the comp. Tom

No, I haven't pulled the trigger... yet. Haha. But, I'm sitting here looking at a two space gap in my desk rack where a 6176 would fit in rather nicely. Right now there's a single Studio Projects VTB1 in the spot and all it does is power my talk back mic to my iso booth. I've got another spot where that could sit rather nicely.

NOW it's serious. You skipped the triple dare you and went straight to the coup de grace of all dares, the sinister triple-dog-dare. I don't see how I can get out of this one.

The trigger has been pulled. Explained to the lovely Mrs. Mod Bod that a "triple dog dare" had been employed and it was a matter of family honor now.

I checked and Fedex has it out for delivery this morning. As usual after the purchase, I immediately got buyers remorse thinking of how much I dropped on this baby. But I've got a feeling that once I plug a mic into it and hear it in the headphones, I'll get that warm glow again.

You are going to love it. It took me a long time to figure out that singers like singing in to a compressor... even if they don't know it yet. It let's them perform with the dynamics they are so used to hearing on records and the radio. Don't be afraid to over do it for a while to see what the practical limits are. :-)

Anyone know something about this statement in the 6176 manual? "Make only one connection (Mic, Line or Hi-Z) to the 6176 preamp section" I plan to rack this baby up and run the Inputs to a HOSA PDR-369 Mic In Panel or just run it straight into a mic line of the mic-snake I have going into my iso booth. I can't see unplugging a mic cord out of the back every time I want to use the Hi-Z jack on the front. Especially since it has a switch in the front panel for the source.

My interpretation is that you can't you can't use more than one input at a time.

I think it would be worth checking further, but for what it is worth, my LA610 channels strips have XLRs hooked up all the time in the back and I switch over and plug in to the hi-z on the front when ever I like and I haven't heard any extra noise or stuff like that. best regards, mike edit spelling

I also did some forum sleuthing and came upon the opinion that if you have multiple inputs hooked up the is some minor interference from other sources. So I believe as others have suggested that as long as I only have one active source at a time, I shouldn't hear any problems. Here's a pic of my new baby in her new home.

Yeah, leave it to me to forget to order a few 3 ft XLR to TRS cords to wire up the extra outputs and inputs into my patch bay. I'd like to be able to access the input and output of the compressor and preamp sections separately. That's why I haven't fastened it down yet. (And I have a bunch of those black nylon cup washers.)
