Midi Cable troubleshoot

Hi I just bought a Yamaha Psr e343 keyboard. I bought it just to use it as a midi keyboard to play softsynths in sonar. I know I need a midi to usb cable((5 pin round on one side and usb on the other))to connect it to pc..Do I need to buy the original UX16 Yamaha cable or any other midi to usb cable will be enough to connect it,,Will a normal cable do the job And is this cable enough for recording too or do I need other cable for that..Thanx

    If it fits it works....
USB cable quality doesn't matter (as long as they don't break).
    Cheers...

You do not need a MIDI to USB cable if this is the keyboard your purchased. It uses a standard USB cable to connect to the PC.

+1 to scook's comment... the USB cable will allow your computer to communicate better with the keyboard and use the correct drivers.

FYI - I bought a "generic MIDI-USB cable" a while ago, and it did not function; and saw another similar post recently of another with the same issue.
