Been away for a week or so. How's the D patch working out?
Howdy. Took a well needed break from EVERYTHING (I basically sat on my man bits playing a video game for a week straight... lol) and am feeling quite refreshed after a very trying year. I noticed in my absence we got a new patch and a spanky new forum. So how's the patch working for everyone? I see far less issues being reported with "D" in the thread titles than there were with the C patch. Just checking to see if I missed anything... good or bad. As far as the forum... it looks nice but now I have to allow googleapis in NoScript to make it work. Beepster doesn't like letting google watch him do his interwebbing. :-/ Hope you have all been well.

To be clear the only new (and potentially serious, although you can workaround it) X3D issue appears to be "Issues with painting/redrawing the screen and mice" in that post.
There have been reports of regular drop out behaviour from people, as yet no real steps to reproduce so one has to treat this as system specific until proven otherwise... Cheers...

Yeah, mostly seems like there aren't any big things so the smalls tuff is getting noticed. My one concern is the audiosnap thread from he other day but that doesn't sound like new weirdness and I've had multiple reports that AS is indeed working better in X3 in general. I'll be trying it out in the next couple days after I totally clean up my apartment. It's getting a little skank in here. ;-p

Hi, Grem. GOG.com had Fallout 1, 2 and Tactics for free a couple weeks ago (I posted a thread about it in the CH but the special is over now). I don't usually play a lot of games and I'd never really played that type of RPG thing before but Fallout 1 just totally sucked me in and blackholed about a week of my time. Great game. I really need some chill out time it seems. I tend to forget that even though I don't have a real job anymore that I do need to take some time off from things every now and again. These past few years has been nothing but moving, studying and wrangling with doctors/bureaucrats. Also my neighbors seem to have gone away that week so it was niiiiice and quiet. I feel about twenty times uncrazier. Now it's time to loony myself up again (he says as his phone starts ringing off the hook).

When my neighbor goes away I feel like I'm on vacation. I don't have to listen to his incessant door slamming, home theater sub-bass and an intermittent noise which sounds like a rhinoceros in a biker jacket being dragged across the floor.

Cool. I didn't know there were FPS ones. That's more what I'm used to but this was a very well done RPG even if it's somewhat dated. The list of voice actors was pretty impressive too. Richard Moll as Cabbot made me laugh. I knew I recognized that voice from somewhere. Heh. Also I guess this thread goes to show how well X3d is working. Instead of complaints and bug reports we're talking about video games and noisy neighbors. ;-)

This summer I started Oblivion because of the urging of my son. Lets just say I had to quit after a couple of weeks. Wife was freaking!!

I'm very sensitive to noise these days which is weird because I've lived in a lot of crazy rehearsal spaces over the years (but perhaps that's why). I can handle day time stuff but I am a very light sleeper and these guys are night owls and my bedroom shares a wall with them. The walls are extremely thin so even if they are being quiet just them walking into the room or talking quietly wakes me up. It's brutal. I gotta get the landlords to toss up some extra drywall or something because it's affecting my already poor health. I didn't realize how badly it was affecting me until I got a few good nights sleep. I mean they COULD certainly be quieter but they're just young people doing young people stuff. My beef is more with the shoddy construction/design of the building. I think it may have something to do with the fact it's a "green" building so they probably used some sh*tty eviro friendly insulation. I mean I'm all for doing stuff to protect the environment and I'm probably the biggest bleeding heart hippie libbo you'll meet (don't hold it against me... lol) but there are certain things you where you have to use common sense with. Roxall can't be that bad for the environment anyway... it's made of freaking rocks FFS. Even still they could have staggered the studs or put the closets/furnace rooms in between the apartments for some separation instead of in the MIDDLE of the freaking apartments. WTF?! Okay... that was a little ranty. Just thinking about it stresses me out. Grem Man ya'll are reminding me what it was like to live in an apartment.

Got a case of the OCD do ya? Same here. Once I figured out what was going on I basically played it from the time I got up until I had to stop because I was starving and needed to eat/go to bed. Normally I don't go that overboard but it was just that good of a game. I'm also pretty much trapped in the apartment due to the weather, poverty and really having no where to go so it was like taking a little walkabout... even if it was in an apocalyptic wasteland. I kept trying to get the female NPCs to sleep with me but they weren't havin' none of it. Frigid I tells ya. ;-p A younger me would be disappointed and horrified at that but screw that guy. He was just a rowdy whippersnapper anyway.

This is my problem too. When I lived in the apartment downstairs, it was a bit on the dingy side but man the old walls were solid and I never heard anything from next door. When they renovated the apartment upstairs I jumped at the chance to rent it for not much more than I was paying before, but after moving in I quickly realized they had done something to the walls in the renovation, i.e. there is no sound insulation between them now. It's one thing hearing muffled voices but when you can hear those higher frequencies coming through it totally destroys your sense of privacy. I've learned to adapt to the situation by using headphones more (i.e. me being considerate to them) but no matter how much I've explained the lack of insulation to my neighbor, he just doesn't get it (and neither have any of the others who've lived there). If you do manage to get the landlord to put some extra drywall up, ask him if he wouldn't mind using Green Glue (even if you have to chip in yourself). It's a magical compound that turns noise energy into heat. http://www.greengluecompany.com/

@sharke... Yeah, I've been researching the Green Glue, Quiet Glue, Quiet Rock, STC ratings, soundproofing codes for residential party walls, etc since I realized how bad it was. I used to do renos (part of how I screwed up my body) but hadn't really heard of the Green Glue/Quietrock stuff until recently. I will be insisting on it and possibly getting them to build a second wall with aluminum studs in the bedroom because of the impact noise (they didn't even stagger the damned studs or if they did they did it wrong). However I will not be paying a penny for this crap because this is a big company who gets grants to build these buildings and my rent is pretty darned high. I'm a really good tenant and hopefully that has become apparent over the past few months. I'm ultra quiet, the unit is well cared for, I'm like a ghost most of the time but when I am out in the halls I'm super nice to everyone and they get their rent automatically. It really is a nice apartment but the sound issue is just nuts and as far as I can tell not up to code. The supposed code for party walls in residential buildings is STC 45-50 which means you can barely hear the sub bass of a cranked stereo, loud voices are muffled but all high freq stuff is non existent. I can hear every word that is said in the next room and can hear stuff all the way on the other side of their unit. That type of noise penetration is like STC 35 or lower which if you look at the charts is basically like being on the other side of a completely uninsulated wall with non staggered wood studs (like an interior wall in an old house). My old place was sh*t as far as things being broken and the place was a dump (even though they told me it would be completely reno'd and I know the other units were immaculate) and there were some seriously frightening people in that building BUT it had concrete firewalls between the units. I really couldn't stay there but the guy upstairs used to SCREAM his head off and the guy next to me had a huge rottweiler that would bark and I could barely hear them at all. Frankly I think they were just waiting for all the old people to die off and the other weirdo tenants to default on their leases so they could turn it into condos (waterfront property). IDK... just my luck I guess but I do like the place. I just need to get some sleep and have a little bit more privacy yanno? I'd like to invite some of my old girlfriends over and don't really feel like putting on a show for the whole damned building. lol

Good luck with the company and the noise abatement. Have you tried ear plugs to sleep with. It may help you block out the low level nighttime stuff.

Thanks. Yeah I keep a set of yellow safety plugs beside the bed if it seems like they're gonna pull an all nighter. Still doesn't help when they smash into the wall or are going completely nuts but that doesn't happen that often. My main problem though is because of my crummy health just having my sleep interrupted for even a few minutes screws me right up the next day. I have no idea how I became such a delicate flower especially after all the years on the road and living/sleeping in absolutely chaotic environments. I'm not too keen on sleeping with ear plugs in in case of an emergency and the fact they tend to screw up my ears. Those yellow safety thingies aren't exactly the most comfortable buggers and I find it makes it hard to mix the next day. Like my ear drums are throbbing and everything sounds tinny and weird. I gotta see what amazon has for comfort plugs. I just have these leftover from my construction days. Whatever... it hasn't been that bad lately so I'm hoping maybe they realized there's a dude sleeping next door. Still I myself have been really altering my lifestyle so I'm not annoying others with MY noise and that's not cool. For the rent I pay I should be able to expect some reasonable amount of privacy. That's what gets me the most. I could save a fortune by having roommates but I don't want roommates for exactly this reason. As it is though I feel like I've got people living in my bedroom. Blurgh! Cheers and thanks for the kind thoughts. Man... this really is OT. What will the forum do without problems to report? lol
