A Few Questions About Melodyne?

With all the raving I've heard about this program I've been looking forward to working with it...

Maybe I haven't figured it out yet.... Maybe this light version doesn't have some tools... I know it's not polyphonic and I'm told that formant correction is only in the full Editor version as well...

But are there tools to tighten/lossen vibratos and wavers? Are there tools to draw lines of pitch?

There are a number of tools I'm used to using in V-Vocal (which I've been using very successfully most of the time) that I do not find here... Simply moving the average pitch of a note is rarely enough of a solution (In my experience)...

I'd love any info and opinions anyone has to share and offer...

Happy Merry Holidaze!

Keni

    Keni,

The best place to learn how to use the various features of Melodyne is the Celemony instructional videos on their website.  I am pretty sure what you want to do can be done, but I am no expert in the software.  The tutorials were very good.

There is a tool to work on vibrato, Keni.  I'm pretty sure it's in "Essentials", or whatever it's called.

In the tool menu in the top left corner, click on the Pitch Tool (a circle with arrows above and below) and choose "Pitch Drift" or "Pitch Modulation.

    HTH, and Merry Christmas.

It's worth reading the manual as well...it's not that bad, especially if you skip the stuff that applies to the standalone and plugin versions.

The Celemony instructional videos are the best lessons you'll find. www.celemony.com/cms/index.php?id=videos

They have individual videos for every feature of the program, along with many that describe how to achieve special processing like drum replacement, fattening up vocals, coloring drum sounds and more. If you really want to learn to get the most out of Melodyne, the creators of the program provide everything you need.

Melodyne Essentials is not a lite version. While it is the entry level version of Melodyne it is a fully fledged program. Obviously it is not as fully featured as Editor or Studio versions.

You might want to consider keeping on using VVocal for the things it does well and using Melodyne for what it does well. You'll need to get used to it more to work out which program suits you for which function. As some have suggested, have a look at the various resources available on the Celemony website.

ARA integration is what makes Melodyne a real treat to work with.

Go to the Celemony site and check out the differences between Essential and the dearer versions.

    Keni,

I have Melodyne Editor and as jb101 mentions it does have some tools to work with vibratos or wavers, but it does not have freehand pitch drawing (unless I missed it somehow). You can adjust the intensity of existing vibratos but AFAIC you cannot add it for instance. The two tools are called Pitch Modulation (adjust intensity of pitch modulation), and Pitch Drift (adjust the slope of the overall pitch over time).

It is a pity it doesn't allow greater control than that since Melodyne would be even better if it did.
