PRV editing issue
This is as problem I've had for ages, but never inquired about as I have a work-around. I want to shift the timing on all the notes in a track using the slide function. So I click on the track in the track view, after which all the notes appear to be selected in the PRV. Then I choose the slide function from the process menu and try to slide the notes by a number of ticks, but nothing happens, the timing of the notes stay the same. The workaround is to laboriously select individually all of the notes in the track, then it works. PITA... http://axiology.bandcamp.com

I'm assuming you don't have the "snap-to" function turned on? If so, that will not allow you to slide unless the number of ticks is the note value of your minimum snap-to selected.

I have tried with snap disabled, it makes no difference. Can someone else verify this? Slide only seems to work when notes are selected directly from the PRV. Clicking on the track in track view appears to select all the notes, but nothing happens when I attempt to slide the timing, for example, by -24 ticks. It could be only happening on my system for some reason, though it appears to be a bug to me, rather than a feature, as I can't imagine what use this otherwise might be. If it's a bug it's been a very long standing one. http://axiology.bandcamp.com

Ctrl-click the time ruler before the first clip, then use the slide feature.  Or use the Nudge feature.

You can also do Ctrl-A to select all in the PRV.

Hmmm... I can't imagine what might cause an ongoing issue with Slide across multiple projects and versions of SONAR. I've never had an issue sliding notes in an version of SONAR whether a partial selecting in the PRV or whole clips in the TV. For the record, Slide is not constrained by the snap grid. Of course, sliding earlier will not work if your selection starts at 1:01:000 or if clips are locked; other than that, can't think what would interfere with it.

I'm pretty sure that if everything is selected in the track (e.g. you pressed ctrl-a in the PRV) you won't be able to slide left because the selected region starts at the beginning.

Before posting, I tried it just to be sure and it did work. Although I don't actually recall if I tried to move 'down time' before moving 'up time.' I do know that, once I got things moving, they moved in both directions. Also, I know for certain the MIDI notes didn't start in the first beat of the first measure.

What he was getting at is that if you use Ctrl+A to Select All, the selected time will start at 1:01:000 even if there are no events there. And slide moves the selected region so that effectively prevents moving anything earlier. If you want to move things earlier, you need to use a selection method the starts the selected range at the start of the first event.

Thanks everybody for your assistance, Jlien X, for your solution. Clicking on the midi track in the TV then Ctrl-click on the time ruler before the first note does it! That moves the start of the selection off the first beat of the first bar. That's the way it works it would seem, even though there's no notes there at 1:01:000. ctrl-a selects all tracks, at least on my system, I don't want to slide all tracks, audio included, just the one. Even so that would require the ctrl-click thing... http://axiology.bandcamp.com
