V Vocal problem

But only on my main DAW.

I cannot even invoke VV on a 2 measure clip without getting a fatal crash, taking me back to the desktop.

And yet, on my "lesser" machine, with the same project, I can get VV to open up normally on a clip of 4 mins & 57 seconds in length.

I'm beginning to think there's something not quite right with my DAW, but how to troubleshoot this is going to be tough.

Any ideas?

I would recommend starting small and working your way up on that one. Does V-Vocal run on the problematic machine in any other project okay? If not, I would start with reinstalling V-Vocal (i.e. X2) and the X3 patch you are running (c?), driver checks, etc.

Also, the specs for your main machine are in your sig, but there's no mention of the specs for the machine on which vv does work. Perhaps a comparison might shed some light?

That's weird, Colin.  I won't hassle you about system specs of post bitflipper's VVocalpost, as I know you know your stuff.

Do you have the same editions of Sonar on both machine's? i.e. X1, X2 and X3 on both of them?  Are they both same edition of Windows?

Same settings in Preferences, like I/O settings?

I'm just fishing, so excuse my time wasting.

If it crashes on all projects on that machine, I would check that all three VVocal related files are available under c:\program files\cakewalk\shared dxi\vvocal\.

Could that project have become partially corrupted?  What happens if you copy that track's audio clips to the Windows clipboard, then paste them into a new project - on an empty audio track. and THEN try to fire up V-Vocal there.

Hi guys, thanks for chiming in.

    Some additional information:

    • I was having problems with this project so I totally rebuilt it from a blank project in X3d. All audio clips were bounced to clip in the original project before copying over to the new one
    • The other machine is an i7950 with 24Gb of RAM. It is a couple of notches below the spec of my main daw - the only area in which it has a higher spec is the graphics card. Maybe, just maybe, this could be the problem
    • Both machines are running Win 7 64 bit, and Sonar X3D
    • I isolated a very short clip, copied it to a blank project, closed the original and VV worked

I'll run some more tests later and check the settings in preferences snd that all 3 files are present

    Cheers all!

    • All 3 files present & correct
    • Cronus was in the list of excluded plugins, but re-enabling it makes no difference on this project
    • I tried it on an older project and V-Vocal fired up as normal (yippee!)
    • Tried it on another old one but V-vocal didn't initialize, Sonar just hung and I had to close it all down manually (boohoo!)
    • I opened another project which contains multiple unbounced V-Vocal clips and the VV editor opens fine on selected clips (yippee!)

I think I'm going to have to just write this one off.
I can work around it by copying the clips I want to a blank project, make sure this is the only project open, do my edits then copy it all back

This might be nutty, but is it possible you are somehow picking up a 32-bit version of V-Vocal?

    Hi Bob.

This isn't likely as I've only ever installed the 64 bit version of Sonar on my DAW

The problem outlined above is now happening on my non-DAW machine

I have made NO changes to the machine or Sonar since the last time I tried it when it DID work.
