VS-100 Gain on inputs 3-6
Hi all- Is there a way on the VS-100 to turn up the input gain on inputs 3-6? I am wondering if the VS-100 has a software equivalent of the sensitivity knobs on inputs one and two.
If no, how would I get more gain out of them? I don't want to turn up the instrument amps. I use Sonar X3 Studio. Is there a way on the software to crank up the input gain?
Thanks!

Len, You can increase the gain of inputs 3/4, 5/6 by using the Comp feature. Enable Comp by first pushing the button above the volume knob labled COMP/EQ. Then select Comp switch in the upper portion of the unit (under the V-LINK label . There are three knobs labeled thres, ratio and gain. Use the gain knob to adjust the gain. Set the other knobs if you don't want any compression. Don't forget to adjust the Main Mix knob if the sound through the speakers/headphone is not loud enough when recording. Hope this is helpful.

OK, thanks! I had thought of this, but I didn't realize that you could do it without using any actual compression. That's worth knowing. I got in touch with Roland support. They essentially said the same thing, but they said to go into the Sonar software, plug in basically any effect, and gas up its output. If you are just looking to boost the volume of something coming into those inputs, do you think it makes any difference whether you do it at the VS 100 or in Sonar? My suspicion is that it is better to do it in the VS 100. Any info appreciated. Thanks!

It's all about signal to noise ratio. As long as you have a reasonable signal level coming out of the VS-100, it doesn't matter too much if you jack up the gain at the VS100 or the channel gain. Walt
