Just upgraded to SONAR X3 Producer, questions about the files offered for download

As the title says, I just bought the X3 Producer upgrade (upgrading from X2 Producer) and am wondering if the "Loops and One Shots" and "Dimension Pro 1.5 and Dimension Pro 1.5 Expansion Packs" downloads that show up where I download X3 are the same as those that I downloaded when I bought X2 Producer? I'd rather not have to download another 3-4Gb over my slow DSL connection if I don't have to.

Thanks for any guidance y'all can offer me.

I decided last minute last night to take advantage of the $20 off the upgrade before it expired...although now with X1 Essential, X1 Studio, and X2 Producer already on my computer, I am going to have to figure out how to get rid of all those other installs without messing up X3 Producer's install...Happy New Year!

DimPro and "Loop and One Shots" are identical to the X2 Producer files, skip them if you already have the X2 Producer files.

    Thank you!

I thought that may be the case but wanted to check it out with those that had already done the upgrade thing...

If you want to delete old versions of SONAR, do it BEFORE installing X3. The uninstall will not touch your project files. You might want to leave X2 Producer installed so the plug-ins that were dropped from X3 will still be on your system.

Thank you for this advice. I was certainly thinking any surgical removals of prior versions would need to happen prior to X3's install.

I also wondered about just leaving X2 alone and getting shed of those older underclass versions of X1 so I like the way you're thinking there too.

Really, worst case though, is having to reinstall my interface's drivers/included plug-ins if everything went sideways. I do not have any add-on plugins that didn't come with X2 Producer (except a couple that came with my interface), and I have my projects backed up in several locations both onsite here and "in the cloud". I don't want it to come to that, of course, but I am not as deeply tied into those old versions as some may be who have a lot of add-on, aftermarket parts or plug-ins or whatnot.

Thanks again for the intel, it's much appreciated.

This post and other threads have prompted me to wonder if I should uninstall unused versions of Sonar X1 and X2 and then upgrade to X3. I am committed to Cakewalk, because of the tremendous pleasure I've derived from use of their software, and I am anxious for normal service to be resumed as soon as possible. For more than a year I have drafted songs in Guitar Pro in anticipation of a settled release I can get to grips with and rely on. In hindsight I should have passed on the X series migration a little longer and perhaps the thought that X3 will not be the end of the story still lingers.

I invested in an i7 DAW, with Sonar X1 pre-installed by the manufacturer, but had to revert to my old system to complete the projects I was working on. When I upgraded to X2, both X1 and X2 were patched to final versions. Although the new DAW has 3 X 1TB drives, default installs were used, so the Sample drive is empty and Audio drive only has the one song developed using X1. A suggestion Sonar X2 be retained to keep features dropped in X3 is noted, but a custom re-install would allow me to put everything in the right place before the upgrade to X3. Are there any instructions for locations for the install to the 3 drive configuration I have? My external Sound Card is an Edirol UA101 and the OS is Win 7 Pro 64Bit.

With thanks in advance for any advice and suggestions received.

Honestly, with that much room, I'd probably just install X3 alongside the other installs on the same drive. Certainly all of the installs share the common folders, like VSTs and the like, and X3 finds and works with those just fine in my experience.

The only reason I wanted to get rid of the older installs was simply one of space - my 2-3 year old laptop only has a single 500 GB fixed disc in it. If I had as little as a 1 TB drive, I'd have left all installs alone.

That said, I uninstalled everything but X2 Producer (X1 Essential & X1 Studio). I then installed X3 Producer. It found all the prior project/data/plugin paths(folders), installed fine and has run properly since go. All of my plugins to date were found and work. All of my projects and audio/data files came through seamlessly as well. Now, granted, when Windows (Win7 Home x64) asked if I wanted to delete all the "shared but unused/no longer used files", I said "No To All" to keep them all (and there were a lot). Was that necessary? I do not know. But I wasn't chancing it.
