Trigger Addictive Drums with Jamstix

I recently upgraded to X3 and like the drum samples of Addictive Drums. I also own Jamstix 3.5 and would like to use it to drive AD. It sounds simple enough but for the life of me I can't seem to get it working.

I'm hoping someone can walk me through the steps to load each synth and configure the midi out from Jamstix to play a multi audio out instance of AD.

Thanks.

    Hi,

I have used AD and JamStix for a while, and the basics are pretty straight-forward (and it works REALLY well).  Drop JS onto the arranger and make sure that "Enable MIDI Output" is selected.  In JS, load a song (such as "Modern Gospel - Aaron) and switch to the kit view and load "AD Jamstix" kit, then go to the mixer (all while still in JS) and click "MIDI Only".  Next, drop AD onto the arranger and make sure that a kit is loaded, then go to the track view in the SONAR inspector (on the left).  Here you'll need to select the MIDI input to be JamStix (look at the bottom of the inspector track view).  Once this is selected, if you start the transport you should hear the song playing. However, after messing around, you may notice that snare rolls do not work as you would expect. To fix this, go into the JS kit and map the snare "offset" articulation to key "G3" (and save it).  More information about this fix is available at the link below:

Those are the AD/JS basics. Maybe someone else can assist with the multi-out audio part of the equation.

    Take care,

The multi-out part refers to setting AD to multiple outputs. I know how to achieve this but was not sure if using JS to trigger AD would impact this setup.

I believe I did have success with the setup you outlined but It seemed to be hit or miss each time I tried a fresh setup. Another issue that I ran into was JS firing off Dimension Pro or True Piano when either was selected. This was random as well.

I'll try again tonight. MIDI kills me.

    Hi,

Try loading AD with the "MIDI Source" selected (as well as "All Synth Outputs"), and then use the resulting MIDI track to set the input from JamStix.  It may also help to use MIDI channel 1 instead of "Omni", so that JS doesn't trigger other instruments (which may also need to be set to other MIDI channels).

Why isn't the correct choice to just default to MIDI Channel 10 for drum routing? Assuming that each project has only one drum track, of course.

The choice of channel does not matter. Most soft synth including the ones mentioned in this thread don't bother with GM channel assignment conventions.
