session drummer 3 and external wav drum sounds

I am using SD3 as an adjunct to Drums on Demand drum loops, which requires that I load each individual drum in SD3 with a wav file of the drum hit from the DOD loop.  This actually works quite well to get fills that make the whole track sound like a real drummer.

PROBLEM is that when I assign the SD3 drum to a wav, all four of the SD3 sounds play the same DOD wav.  Snare is snare, stick is snare, handclap is snare, elcsnare is snare.  Is there a way to keep the same wav file from being triggered by note 37, 38, 39 and 40?  I'd like to keep 38 as snare, but have say 39 a roll.  And so forth....

The workaround I've come up with, since I'm on a timeline, is to assign the roll to the cowbell pad.

Loading audio files directly to the pads in SD3 restricts the pad to one audio file; sfz files are the only way to assign audio files to the notes associated with the pads.

I opened up a sfz file with Notepad, and that looks straightforward.  Not.  Googling about I found SFZed which I guess I will try to learn.  Thanks for the tip.

After creating a few with SFZed, you will see that simple sfz files are pretty easy to create. Alternately, I might pick one of the existing simpler files for instrument pad needed, copy and update with new audio files.
