VSTs trigger external gear

I have a VST that is a sequencer and synth called Axon by Audio Damage.  Its a very strange but awesome VST.  Anyway, this VST can trigger its own sounds and well as external gear.  Unfortunately I have not figured out how to trigger external gear with it.  I have talked with their support and they don't know Sonar so they could not help.  I am certain the answer has to do with the internal routing within Sonar but I can't figure it out.  Does anyone know how to do this?
 
I know there was a similar topic to this within the last month but it really didn't answer my question.

    Do you see the VST in the list of available Inputs to a MIDI track? If not, you need to enable MIDI Out for the VST (right-click the instance in the synth rack). Then select the VST as the Input for a MIDI track, assign that track's output to the hardware/synth port, and enable Input Echo on the MIDI track.
