Roland Octa Capture Problem

Just got a new Roland Octa capture and I am having a problem.
Windows 8, I downloaded the latest driver for it.
Sonar X3
My system sees the octacapture, and I hear sound coming out of it.  However, when I turn the unit on there is nothing on the screen.  It lights up, but there is nothing displayed.
Got a feeling this isn't a software problem so I contacted Roland support but I thought I would check here too.
Thanks!

Sounds like a hardware fault. There is a firmware update on the Roland site, it gives some added functionality as well as updating the basic drivers. Might be worth updating to see if this can bring back the screen. Does sound like the screen is faulty though, it is totally independent of your computer. Let us know what Roland has to say.

What I think happened is this. It's a liquid crystal display. I'm in the northeast. We just had a major storm and it is freezing cold out. Wind chills below zero. Even though it was in a box it sat outside for an hour or two. My understanding is that LCD displays can freeze but that they come back from it. I let it sit overnight. I will see how it is this morning.

Still no go, even after firmware update.  I think it is just a fried screen and I will just return it.  We'll see what Roland says.
