Anyone using the Focusrite Forte??? OK, I bought one!
Open letter to cclarry, tom1 and anyone else using Focusrite Forte... Please post latency data here for future searches... and for uniformity, I would really appreciate data in the following fashion, for comparative purposes. I'll include mine if/when I get one I really appreciate your help in this as I have a feeling once I try the Forte, I'll want/need to have it despite it talking the money I'm trying to save for Spitfire's Iceni... The whole latency issue is up in the air though and I really don't want to have to return it as it messes with my store and it's profit margin/giving me good deals...So, here's what I'd love you to do, and it'll answer a lot of questions and I'll post it widely, along with my confirmation, if I get it... Ok, so without a song loaded, so you don't mess up your settings... - go to preferences, audio... Driver Settings....
- change Sampling Rate to 44.1
- click on the ASIO panel button... if it does nothing, go to #7
- In your ASIO settings, if it lets you change the buffer size to 32 (it should, with your device), do that and hit apply... write down all three... inpute, output, and total roundtrip....latencys reported by sonar...
- Change the buffer size to 64, HIT APPLY and again write down all three....
- change the buffer size to 128, and do the same... You can do this for other buffers if your curious, but those three will give the most generally reported data which others can add to the data base.
- If hitting the ASIO button does nothing (as with my PreSonus 44vsl) then you have to change the ASIO settings in the Focusrite Mixer panel... bring that up and it'll have some button saying “settings, asio, or buffer” I forget but I do recall the mixer has something... they all do... Once you find it , go to 4 above...
- PM me or post in my thread in Equipment seeking this data
And a big, huge, awesome and amazing thanks... you will be doing anyone a huge bunch of help... In both my old SaffirePro24dsp units my latency was pretty good... 6ish and I don't understand some of the high latencies 2 people reported somewhere in the googleverse... and people often don't know how to do it correctly... which is why I've tried to spell it out above. After a longwinded data dig and much wonderful advice from you all I ended up with a PreSonus AudioBox 44VSL. I like it a lot but am really intrigued by the Forte for its very high quality RedNet pre's and high end DACs... and have a couple weeks to exchange the VSL if I choose... But can't find any real world latency data... which is also important. The 44VSL is running nice and low, (i think 4.9ms at 64) and I'd hate to give that up...but for a couple hun more to get the pristine $2000 level sound...

cclarry had posted that he got one in early December... here is a link to his thread.

I have really taken a shine to Focusrite since I got my Saffire. The reviews of the Forte are pretty stellar, and as far as "on the road with a laptop" it looks like a dream! I really loved their demo video of that unit recording in another guy's house!

Yeah, I read it, is a nice review. Have you gotten to try it out for yourself yet?
