I just noticed the faint checkerboard pattern
Wow it's taken me this long to notice that there's a faint pattern of light grey squares either side of the new forum. I think I need new glasses (or maybe just clean these ones from time to time).

Maybe it's there to help you adjust your monitor settings. My monitor has those shading diagnostics for calibration.

You mean you don't see it? It's not my monitor, it's this website. Look at the borders either side of the content.

Saw it on day one. If you save the background and stare at it for a while, you'll discover that it's also a Magic Eye image.

I'm trying my best to not notice them. It's bad enough that 3 right eye surgeries make things tougher, but with stuff like that barely visible, makes it a lot worse!

I can barely see them. Actually, I can see only one at a time when staring directly to the screen and and the square. If I move my eyes one inch up or down, they vanish. Had not noticed them before.

Yes it's there and always has been. If you mess with your monitor controls you can make it more or less visible.
