5F, still no heating
Now admittedly it is a little cool in my apartment, but nothing a sweater and fluffy slippers won't fix. I'd like to know how cold it has to get before I feel like I have to turn my heating on (which hasn't been on for over 2 years). It's amazing how much your apartment is warmed by the collective heat of all the other apartments below you.

If it reaches 4F, burn the other tenants.

My wife and I discovered this about ten years ago. Saved us a bundle when we were living in a building where we had to pay extra. Now, it's included, but we got so used to it, we rarely put it on.

My building has those old ass radiators that are either fully on or fully off. When they're on I cannot stand the heat, even in nothing but my boxers I'm sweating and miserable. And the winter air is already dry enough without making it worse. My heat is included in the rent but I don't want it. Amazingly enough some of the so-called "luxury" hi-rises in Manhattan are freezing cold when you turn the heating off. I was in one recently, a huge glass condo on 5th avenue right next to the Empire State Building. It was so cold in there without the heat on, and when I was stood next to the floor to ceiling windows I could feel cold air coming in. Some of these modern constructions are built like crap, and yet people pay a million bucks for an apartment here. My ancient East Village walkup is so much more solid (except the wall separating me and my neighbor, which is as thin as paper ever since my apt was given a "modern" renovation).

I once lived in a place like that for a while - it was a former hotel that was very cheaply converted to apartments and among the corners cut during the conversion was keeping the existing whole building heating system in place that no-one had any control over and was always full on. I lived there about 6 months through spring/summer and don't think I ever closed the windows.

They had the heating on in the summer? Man what a waste of money and resources. My building is like that as well. Sometimes it will be like 65F outside and the heat comes on.

Yup. I think that might have been where global warming started.

Are you sure Steve's vindaloo didn't play a part in that?
