Burning to CD - what should the file type be?
After mastering I've always burned to CD using 320 MP3, and never had any problems playing the resulting CDs.
Today I decided to use WAV instead as that should be better quality. But the CD wouldn't play in my car (new three months ago with top of the range audio) or on a friend's mini hifi setup. What file format do you guys burn to CD with?
My stuff Intel Sandy Bridge i7 2600 @ 3.4GHz, 4 cores, 8 threads, 16GB RAM.OS & Programs drive: 240GB SSD
Data drives: 1 x 1TB drive RAID mirrored, plus extra 1TB data drive
Windows 10 Home 64 bit

44.1 khz/ 16 bit
I use Sony CD Architecture to burn an audio CD.
You could use Windows Media Player.
Drag the files to the burn list and select burn audio cd from the drop down menu.
I believe that audio cds need a lead in and lead out written which gets done when you select "burn audio cd".

You're probably burning a data cd with wave files on it. You need to burn an audio cd and select the waves files as the source. This means you should export at 16 bit, 44.1KHz. Don't forget to adjust dithering, if you know how. Otherwise, don't bother.

Make sure "Finalise CD" is selected when burning an audio CD.
If not it will only work on a PC/Laptop.

Quite true. Sound Forge Pro includes CD Architect, which is about the best program for burning CD's. And always use 44.1 @ 16 bits. Also there are players that ONLY play wav files. Check with your OEM for the specs.

Although WAVs and MP3s may play on many CD/DVD players, a true Audio CD is made up of CDA files. You must use a program to convert your WAVs to CDAs as you burn the CD. Start with WAVs at 44.1hz 16bit and use any burning software that will create "Audio CDs". Sonar's CD burner works great for this.
