Reminds me of the Peter Criss story in the early nineties. Does that tell us anything about the general public perception of drummers? :P

His story was totally unbelievable. He should have claimed to be Ginger Baker.

I think I’ve told this story here before but it is probably worth retelling. Many years ago my wife and I attended the Modern Drummer Festival at Monclair State College in NJ. A “star” studded event where Ginger Baker was the “A – lister” invited clinician. As a side note, my wife deserved a lot of credit because the Modern Drummer Festivals were, at least from her perspective, worse than Rush concerts. Imagine it, the Coffee House got all abuzz when two women showed up on a thread about "Women" … these things were even more extreme. In any event, she left for a while to wander the halls or something and when she got back ,Ginger Baker happened to be in the middle of his performance / solo. My wife looked at me and with all sincerity asked … “who is the homeless guy on stage?”

Eric 'Stumpy Joe' Childs was why I started drumming!

Good point, maybe he was expecting David CovertuneCoverdale to come out and help him.

This gave me a chuckle for the memory it brought up. Quick precursor is I went to a "public school" where folks could get thrown out for lying... anyway, while there this one guy said this and that (mostly playing for Dokken), and had an electric guitar that I do not think anyone ever saw him play... I remember once he had given an album to someone as "his work" and about a year later, another classmate had found the album (was local band) and the "guitar player" was nowhere to be found in the info. The comedy (and why I was laughing), was I started to play guitar around that time, and this guy avoided me like the plague. I was just looking for tips, insights, etc. One day he stopped by my room and picked up the (acoustic) I was playing and played the most discordant "chord" on it... quickly set it down, said it needed tuning... so I picked it up (had just tuned it actually) and started playing folk chords on it.
