I useTS-64 Transient Shaper often, especially for a snare pop, but I use it on a parallel buss, mixing the transient to the original drums buss. I've tried the same thing with Trans-X, but again, only as a parallel buss. I almost never use it inline on a track, for the letter reason bitflipper mentioned.
I will say, it's worth $49, and I bought it because of that. I think the sale is over now, though.
