Session Drummer 3 audio dropping out quite often with X3 Pro

I've been using SD3 since X1 with no problem till X3 Pro, same system.

When X3 was released, I got the X3 (basic) and there is no issue with SD3 - using up to patch "b" (skipped "c").

When I upgraded to X3 Pro with latest patch "d" end of Dec - I've experienced SD3 audio dropping out quite often, other tracks are fine. Sometimes it would run for hours in a loop with no issues, but other time, after a few round of manual start / stop, the SD3 audio would suddenly stop while other tracks kept going. Stop / start and the SD3 audio is back. This happens during playback and recording.

First I though using my own wav file samples was the problem, then I on my current project with only SD3 running Platinum kits, the same audio drop out occurs. This is a simple project with only AAS lounge lizard, AAS ultra analog VA, Kontakt Scarbee Bass and SD3, no heavy effect processing.

Anyone having similar issue ?

edit : replaced SS3 with SD3

    Suggest...

    1) After you install X3D patch you do a VST reset.

    2) Edit -> Preferences -> MIDI -> Playback and Recording -> Prepare using X Buffers... Increase X here and let us know (FYI mine is at 250 right now but you may need to try say 500 unless your setting is smaller than 250).

Otherwise we will need to go into other latency areas.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks Alex,

My setting is already at 250. Did latency test when I first setup my system, and was reported suitable for DAW (cut some spike after turning off the wireless networking).

I will try to continue the project using X3 basic and see the result.

Thanks Alex, I shall try that one too, and shall report back in a day or two.

    Cheers!

Setting of 500 seems to reduce some SD3 audio dropping out, but it still happens. Back in X1/X2 I was running more tracks, and there is no problem with SD3 (with 250 setting).

Today is the first time I'm using track comping - I invited a guitarist friend to lay down some rhythm track and I'm quite happy with the first experience. He just play none stop for a few rounds and everything is recorded perfectly.

However, when I revert to sound on sound which is normally what I do as I may do phrase recording which overlaps the audio a bit. After many round practicing / recording, I got the last pass done .. and I forgot to save! When I proceed to move the last recorded audio clip down to another track.. I got a hard crash. It was just that last bit, I did not save, ..I'll just record it once more.

I'm now almost at the end of the project so I won't be testing this project with X3 basic, but for the next project, I shall start with the basic and see it there is any difference.

Thanks, Alex for the link. I'll have it updated after a few more test.

I'm now back at X3 basic on a new project. So far no audio dropping out from a few hours of work on SD3. The Preference - Playback/Recording - Playback buffers is at 250 ms.

It's still early with only a few synth tracks and SD3, so I'll continue to work on it and update again.

Re: Session Drummer 3 audio dropping out quite often with X3 Pro 2014/01/30 06:05:50 (permalink)
Update : after a few days working on X3 basic - the issue of SD3 audio dropping out still occurs, when I inserted more tracks. This is not Sonar audio drop out, rather just the SD3 sound is silent whereas the other synth continues no problem.

I've also encounter a strange SD3 behavior - sometimes after recording a few tries with ctrl-z , as well as editing other tracks and moving along the timeline, the SD3 pattern could end up playing the wrong one. For example, the start of the song is suppose to be a hi hat count in, but instead it plays another pattern. I only noticed this as it's the start of the song - suppose to be a hihat countdown.

I'm using sound on sound recording mostly.

So.. tested on X3 Pro and X3 basic, same problem seems to point to SD3 ?
    - SD3 audio drop out after repeatedly start / stop playback (especially done quickly).
    - Sometimes play wrong pattern.
