Kontakt 5 question
I'm looking at Kontakt in the up coming future. They mention SFZ as a supported software format. Curious to know if this means that Dimension Pro libraries will load. I will be using Kontakt in 64 bit AAX format and that's the reason I would like to know.

I dunno, haven't tried it with those. It's sound font support is a little strange. It has to run a conversion and save the files out to disk as Kontakt format before it'll play them, it doesn't just load and use them.

Dim Pro has "preset" files (don't recall the extension letters) that are Dim-Pro-specific. Kontakt won't know anything about them. But the SFZ files should (in theory) load just fine. I've never tried with Kontakt. I have loaded Dim Pro SFZ files into Alchemy with mixed success. For one thing, SFZ files can use notation like key=C3 to designate a note. The problem is that there's no industry standard. One vendor's C3 is another vendor's C5, both meaning middle C. If your SFZ file uses key=60, there's no ambiguity. If necessary, you can edit the SFZ files to change the key specifications.

I have imported sfz. from Dimension Pro into to Kontakt. Most times the waves will import across the keyboard range, but most times will sound drastically different from the Dimension Pro preset. But it is useful to be able to create a whole new instrument based on those samples.

Import isn't mission critical but it would be nice to be able to use some of the extra libraries I just bought for Dimension Pro. I'm talking mostly about Brass and Woodwinds.

There is a free version of Kontakt 5, that is only crippled by time limit per session and minimal library. I tried to open Dim pro presets with the free Kontakt 5 with no luck a few weeks ago, same results with Kontakt 4. If there's a way, I'd like to know too.

I'm extremely pleased to have libraries of sounds in Dimension Pro and all sorts libraries in Kontakt.
Kontakt has ample new things to get acquainted with. It seems limiting and potentially frustrating and/ or time wasting to try to reuse what's already great in one tool (DimPro) instead of spending that energy getting acquainted with stuff already designed for Kontakt. At least that's how I approach it.
Two internal 2TB SSDs laptop stuffed with Larry's deals and awesome tools. Studio One is the cat's meow as a DAW now that I've migrated off of Sonar. Using BandLab Cakewalk just to grab old files when migrating songs.

You can't. The limit is so that you will have incentive to buy the full version. However, I have imported a few SFZ files from CM magazines. The only problem is that the pitch is sometimes off an octave. One thing about DimPro is that it ignores the envelopes embedded in the sfz file, in favor of the ones specified in the DP interface. As a result, the developer might not have bothered to include that information in the base sfz file and you may need to tweak.

Kontakt can import any file format you've ever heard of, including soundfonts. But you'll lose a great deal in the process unless you're willing to spend a lot of time recreating the instrument in Kontakt, because an instrument (or "program" in DP-speak) is more than just a collection of samples. It'll be far easier to just continue using those libraries in Dim Pro. I can think of at least one scenario wherein you might want to go to the bother, though. That would be collecting a bunch of different Dim Pro sounds into one instrument for convenience. I've done that sort of thing with percussion effects, such as taking my favorite handclaps from one library, a favorite tambourine from another, weird sounds and odds 'n ends from various libraries and outboard synths, and combining them all into one Kontakt instrument. Being able to import Dim Pro libraries wouldn't be a compelling reason to get Kontakt, IMO. But there are plenty of other compelling reasons.
All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to. My Stuff

Thanks, Bit. No, spending a lot of time on something like that is not in my DNA. I'll likely just buy a sample set that does what I want. I'd be happy with Xpand 2 if it just had a few more brass articulations.
