FYI, Audiodeluxe has a bunch of BFD expansion downloadable licenses for a great deal.

Anyone got the new Imperial Drums expansion kit yet ?

This sounds lovely, I was wondering whether to get Eldorado, XFL or the Delux expansion and now this comes along.
FX seem to have abandoned the "Kit Piece" page that was included in the kits info where you could preview each individual kit piece which I think is a really bad idea. That was one of the things I really liked about their site, there was as much attention to detail as there was with the product.

Anyway, if anyone has got hold of the imperial kits I'd be interested to know what you think.
There's also a Digital Vault 2 but don't think I'll be getting it.

Steve, I fear I will have them by the end of the month while they are still half off. I bought deluxe from audiodeluxe, but haven't downloaded yet. That was one of the only packs I didn't have. I started on BFD 1 so I have the eldorado drums. I think each of the packs has something to offer I think I have reached the point of overkill at this point, but I won't let that stop me :)

Yeah one of my big questions I keep asking myself is, "do I really need it" ? and the answer is,  "probably not really" but as you say, that's not always sufficient.

    Hi Steve,

Just got the Imperial Drums installed today on the laptop but have not had much time to play with them. It was around an 8GB download split across 4 separate files. Total FULL install size around 29GB and was a breeze to install. I purchased them from FXpansion so my serial was already registered to my account.

I like the versatility of the expansion pack and I must admit that I had been looking for the Remo Roto-Toms for some time. That is about all I have played with by adjusting the damping and velocity-to-pitch change. These things can be damped and pitch shifted to get some very cool percussion things going on.

The choice of beaters are great and I Personally feel like I got my monies worth and more. These individual drums will get used here.

Have you had chance to play with these some more?

I made the mistake of listening to the demo tracks, they sound very good. I certainly don't need it but the Roto Toms I have for Kontakt dont quite cut it and there are a lot of drums for the money in this pack.

    Hi Glyn,

I'm sorry but I have not had a chance to play with these any further. My last few days have been taken removing snow and hosting family and friends...

I really want to build up a kit using the roto-toms but I have no idea when I will get that chance. I don't believe I have any Kontakt drums that have roto toms to compare them to. Which ones do you have for Kontakt?

I have "Drum Masters 2: NDV Multitrack Roto Timbales Drum Kit Infinite Player library for Kontakt"  - from eSoundz

Kit peices include both Timbales and Roto Toms. Its not that bad and worth what I paid for it but I would like better ones.

    Hi Glyn,

I don't have that one to compare with. Unfortunately, they did not put a sound comparison page up for the individual drums for this expansion kit. Here is a link that lists the individual pieces in the expansion. http://www.fxpansion.com/index.php?page=211&tab=507

They also do not include any grooves as some of the kits but this was not a concern here. Since sounds are subjective I don't know how to give you advice that may or may not be accurate to your ears. For me, I am currently happy with the expansion and for $63US I feel it to be a worthwhile investment.

Wish I were able to help more.

    Kind regards,
    Rick

Now if they would just get the BFD2 to BFD3 upgrade under $100 I'd be set! :)

Well, I bit and upgraded to BFD3. So I have Eco, 2, and now 3 plus the Nick Mason kit I originally set out for. I also subscribed to Groove3 and I'm starting the learning curve. I'm coming from EZ/Superior and I hope this is as easy as EZ. I would love to get the EZ loops into BFD (since I have so many of the expansions).

I really think this is going to be a great creative tool, and honestly, I enjoy mixing drums! :)

The Groove 3 will help a lot. I don't find BFD as intuitive and the Toontrack stuff, but it very powerful.
