Take Lanes clip cut and paste question

In Take Lanes, I try to cut and paste a clip into an empty area of an existing Take Lanes but it appears that by default it goes to the same lane of the original clip and truncated any existing clip in the pasted section. The question is can I paste a clip to any Take Lane and is there a switch/setting so that it doesn't truncate existing clip.
