Dimension Pro dll not found by sonar x3

Hi, I just upgraded from Sonar X3 Studio to the producer version and everything went just fine, but Sonar can't seem to find the dimension pro x64 dll. I've checked and activated all the paths, and installed multiple times. My Sonar is updated as well (x3d). I've searched the forum but could not find anything. There's a patch in the dimension install folder, which I can't apply, but I suppose it's for an earlier version?!

I hope somebody can help me, thanks in advance :)

Dimension Pro has its own installer included with the Producer download (full version). Did you run that installer and specifically as administrator (right click and run as administrator)? The first thing I would recommend is simply running the Dimension Pro 1.5 installer again and see if that helps, then rescan VST plug-ins within SONAR.

Perhaps it needs to be registered again?  (If it was installed again. possibly)

After install, I always run Dim Pro in stand-alone mode with Run As Administrator, to then complete the registration process, and then it will run correctly, and Sonar will be able to load it.

Hope that helps,

So I think I solved this issue. For whatever reason it doesn't work if the vst folder is in the 64bit cakewalk folder (program files\cakewalk\vstplugins\dimension pro). I used the path for the 32bit plugins (program files (x86)\vstplugins\dimension pro). Is there a way to check if the plug in is running in 64bit or using bitbridge?

That would bring in the 32-bit Dim Pro.

You only need to specify C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Vstplugins in the search path for VST instruments in the Cakewalk Plugin Manager, and that path should have been added automatically in the Sonar install.  Sonar will detect any sub-folders, so there is no need to specify the entire path to Dimension Pro.

Open a Windows File Explorer window, and navigate to C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Vstplugins\Dimension Pro.  You should see 2 files there - the Dim Pro dll, and the Dim Pro stand-alone program.  If these 2 files are there, and you have the path specified properly, and you have done the installation with explicitly using Run As Administrator (not just logging on with an Admin account), and you have completed the Dim Pro registration process, then there is no reason why Sonar should not find the Dim Pro 64-bit dll.

I would think one of the above-listed steps was not completed.

What happens if you double-click on the stand-alone 64-bit Dim Pro, from the above folder?  Does it run properly?  Does it want a registration code?  (If it does want a registration code, exit and run again, using Run As Admin, and then enter the registration code).

Perhaps for some reason the 64-bit Dim Pro was excluded by Sonar, which you can check in the plugin manager by clicking on the Show Excluded Plugins option.

Or, perhaps your download and/or install of Dim Pro was done while antivirus software was running, as that can sometimes cause installation or execution problems.  If so, navigate back to the Cakewalk Store, then temporarily suspend your antivirus software, download Dim Pro again, and install it again, all while the antivirus software is suspended.  You can resume your antivirus software after the install completes.  After registration is completed, by running Dim Pro in stand-alone mode with Run As Administrator, check your search paths again in Sonar, to make sure they are correct, then BOTH Reset AND Rescan your plugins.

Lastly, I would not recommend adding 32-bit plugins into 64-bit Sonar, particularly when you have 64-bit versions of the Cakewalk instruments and effects.

Hope something in the above helps,

Bob Bone

Hi Bob, thank you for your answer. I actually tried everything you suggested, but only the different path worked. Is it really 32 bit just because I used the x86 path? Because I installed the x64 version, I simply used the other path because it was already there.

Just to verify quickly, did you run the Dim Pro 1.5 installer? The Producer edition includes the full version of Dim Pro, and it has its own installer.

Re: Dimension Pro dll not found by sonar x3 2014/01/22 15:31:53 (permalink)
DimPro provides both 32bit and 64bit installations. Depending on which is installed first will control where the bulk of the installation is located. If the 32bit version is installed first most of the data will reside in "C:\Program Files (x86)". If the 64bit version is installed first most of the data will go in "C:\Program Files". The location does not affect the operation of the synth.

I used the separate installer and only installed the 64bit version. Well I think it's working right now, haven't had any crashes.

Did you make sure to remove the 32-bit folder from your search paths?

No, but I uninstalled Dimension completely and tried the 64-bit path again. Didn't work.

Thank you, this is by far the most helpful community I ever came across. I hope I can give something back one day :) (...and did the clean install aswell ;)) As far as I can see, dimension is working in 64bit.

Is there a way to check if the plug in is running in 64bit or using bitbridge?

If the plug-in is loaded in one of the bins (for example the Track FX Bin) or in the synth rack
open the plug-in's GUI (its plug-in property page)

more info can be found in Sonar's Help

Yes, the header is one way. In 64bit versions of SONAR, all 32bit VST plug-ins have (32-bit) appended to their name in the menus and browser. In the X3 browser the 32bit plug-ins names are green.

BTW, to get the standard VST header for a 32bit plug-in hold the SHIFT key while opening the UI. The header in addition to providing certain useful functions can be docked where the 32bit plug-in UI cannot.

Only if using the "Default All Plug-ins" menu layout...

As shown below if you use a custom plug-in layout menu you loose the "(32 bit)" type ID, only the color is changed unless you use *MenuMagic or other 3rd party tool.
