Saffire pro 40 + Linux and jack works, although I have to keep kicking it to keep it working for some reason.

Beep I think you are referring to jack. Jack is the Linux method of providing low latency audio. The only problem is if you have a recent audio interface its likely to not have jack drivers yet. The hardware manufactures as a rule don't support Linux.

Jack (on Windows) is another one of those Sisyphean things I have to try again and again... and wind up pissed...
