[CWBRN-31436] - FX bins hidden in the Trackview for older Sonar projects

If I open a Sonar 8.5 project in Platinum. There is no FX bin visible in the Track view. The FX show up in the console view. In the Console view you can choose "Module" show/hide FX bin and I see the FX bin in the Console view. I see no control like that in the Track view. The Track control manger is set to "all". I tried other settings like "custom", etc.

I'm pretty much transitioning from 8.5 to Platinum. I did work with X3 for about a month, but due to a midi bug I wasn't able to use it, yet I did a new create a X3 custom template and in that template the FX bins do show up. Is there a show/hide FX bins for the Trackview?

Is this the correct forum to post this? I haven't turned in a bug report yet on this

Can you try a brand new 8.5 project to platinum?
    Do you have any screenshots?

yes I just tried it with the template I've been using for 8.5 - same problem. Here's a screen shot.

    I suppose it's a backward compatible bug.

Have you tried adjusting the divider between the header and the track? I can get the FX bin to disappear but it usually takes moving the divider more to the left than what the picture shows. I do not have a template built with 8.5 to test though.

I wonder if the "All" filter has somehow decided to show everything except the FX. Can you go into the Track View filter and check the definitions?

Just tried a test with a project from 2000 opened fine apart from complaining about a missing plug, the FX bins are visible.

To the right of "All" is an arrow, if I click on that I see - Track control manager, is that what you mean when you say Track View filter? I'm not aware of a Track View filter, I hope you're on to something. I did go into Track control manager. There is no way you can change "All" but I did look at "Custom" and saw that the FX were checked. I unchecked them and closed and reopened Track control manager and then rechecked those FX boxes and that didn't affect it

I've checked a few 8.5 files and they all have the same problem. Here a CWP file that has this problem. Please download it and test it

I tried maximizing one track and moving the divider far to the right and nothing I do makes the FX bin show up.

I can reproduce with this project.
I've tried moving the divider left and right, and resetting the track control manager. Nothing.

Unfortunately we don't have steps to repro from a new project, and it looks like project corruption, so I may end up moving this out the problem report forums later, undecided though....  hard one...

At this stage I would send it to support stating the URL of this post:

    https://www.cakewalk.com/Support/Contact

Maybe do a follow up call a few days later...

Now I do have a workaround....
    * Select screenset 2 or any other screenset.
    * Hit dropdown above this and select duplicate current screenset to -> Screenset01.
    * Then do the necessary alterations.. You should be back to normal..

    Cheers...

Selecting Revert Current Screenset from the Screenset drop-down does the trick, also.

    Yup that's even better.

For now I will move this to Sonar forums, if we get another issue like this from somebody we'll look into it deeper, if the issue still bothers you I would contact support.

Full disclosure: It didn't occur to me that the issue might be screenset-specific until I saw Alex's post. Then I just went looking for related functions. I don't think I've ever used the Revert function before today.

The problem occurs with files saved with fx bins set to horizontal from X3. Those aren't supported and so the code was skipping them. We should be flipping the state so we'll fix it. Thanks..
You can workaround it by setting them to vertical in 8.5 or via the other suggestions provided..

Thanks Noel. If somebody can generate or supply me a CWBRN I'll throw it back into problem reports forum.

Thanks so much Alex and all who helped come up with workarounds and I'm so glad Noel knows the exact cause.
