Group Automation....Is This a Dumb Question??

Hi all... another quick question...and I feel dumb for asking, but here it is:  Is it possible to automate a group?  For instance, if I have 3 volume faders grouped, and I automate one of them, can I have the other 2 follow the 1st one's automation envelope?  (WITHOUT having to Copy/Paste Special for each one...).

When I automate one of them, I see that fader move, but not the other 2 of the Group.

Thanks.

Cheers!

Tony

I can't remember exactly how this was done in 8.5, but you could try holding the Ctrl key whilst moving 1 fader.

Actually, you don't state whether or not you've actually tried it without using the Ctrl key.

Or just assign to a group buss and automate that.

There's no way to link automation, AFAIK. Normally, you'd route the three tracks to a bus and place the volume automation on the bus. That's pretty much what busses were invented for.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

If volume faders are grouped and write automation enabled, volume envelops will be recorded for all the grouped items at one time. Envelop edits are not grouped.

Thanks for the tips my friends.  I have not tried the Cntrl key method yet...but looks like a sub-bus is probably the answer.

2 of my 6 Background vocalists are all over the map volumewise, but in track with each other.  I wanted to Group their 2 faders and ride them (automated) to keep up with the other 4 vocalists.  All 6 have been previously routed to a BGV bus.

Cheers!
