Need mic advice for soft, airy, tenor vocals... budget minded.

Originally I posted this asking about the new AT-5040, then I realized that it is a 3k microphone. The latest Recording magazine has a rave review about it. It seems it is to become a classic. I need a great mic, for breathy tenor vocals. I don't know if this will fill the bill or if I should stay with my intent to get a Shure SM7b.

Any thoughts or ideas for this application would be great before I spend money.

Thanks,
Julien

Just curious, would you consider a digital mic? That's in the same range. I know rme is developing interfaces for them. I don't know anyone who has one.

StudioCat > I use Windows 10 and Sonar Platinum. I have a touch screen.
I make some videos. This one shows how to do a physical loopback on the RME UCX to get many more equalizer nodes.

I consider anything. I just need a good mic for breathy, soft, tenor vocals. I've always been a tenor, was a 1st tenor in school. Over the years my vocal chords have sort of bowed a little, away from each other in the middle. It makes my voice a little more breathy. An ENT, Dr. Moretz, Chloe's dad was going to fix them but he moved to Cali...
I cannot spend 3k on a mic right now. After a little reading, I get the idea that the Shure beta SM-57A might do a decent job. I only have so much money for trial and error. The only LDC I have is an MXL 2001. I've a SDC for guitar and an SM-57, and a couple of other mics but nothing good. An MXL ribbon, an Astatic J-30. I've been considering the Shure SM7b and the new Rode NT1, I think it is street priced at about 400.
Almost every drive through window I go to where they cannot see me, they refer to me as Mam... same on the phone, Ms. B... if anyone has any suggestions. I need to stay under 500 bucks because of other things I need want.
