Hi gents,
after upgrading the onboard videocard of my box (intel i 3770 cpu,hd 4000,no crackles aso)
randomly pops and crackles appear during mixing, mastering aso.
Specially if I open a software gui like voxengo elephant-
it´s start´s getting noisier .It´s a passiv zotac gt 640.
Running Win 7 64 bit and Sonar X3 pro d, all driver´s up to date, mainboard asus Z77 aso.
Any idea ?

Thanks in advance!

Not sure if this will benefit, but did you uninstall you older drivers before you installed the new video card? Sometimes you can get conflicts if there are older drivers left on the system.

Good idea,
before I installed the new videocard, I  didn´t find the
driver  for the onboard videocard,
So now I will remove the new videocard and search again!

Any idea where?

uninstall display driver (without the new card) back to the most basic ms video driver.
install new card and driver.
when you get the new one installed you may want to disable the onboard adapter in the bios.

It could be an IRQ conflict

You shouldn't have to uninstall the Windows drivers of your onboard graphics... Just go into the BIOS and disable it there.  Done.

Make sure you have the latest software driver package for your new card.  (If you installed from the CD that came with the card, that driver is likely already outdated).

Speaking of driver software, make sure the software package didn't install any extra utilities that are running in the background.  This is quite common, especially for gamer-type cards.  Take a look under Control Panel-Programs, and see if any software was installed sharing the same date as your video driver.  (Even better, if you're comfortable using msconfig command, use that to disable anything in startup that isn't critical).

Good luck.

Thanks gents for your hinds,
now I disabled in the bios enerything which sounds like the onboard videocard,
but this bios is a bit strange, cause there are no devices like "intel hd 400"
or VGA monitor etc,
there is only a dialogue like which graphic to use as main monitor (now PCIE).
It´s not a irq conflict.
I´m downloading the intel videodriver´s to uninstall them, cause I still couldn´t find them.
Will try this afternoon if the crackles aso have disappeared.
If not, I guess reading the bios manual and asking you with new info´s seems to be a good idea.

Thanks for raising  me on the horse!

This may be totally unrelated but what audio interface are you using and how are your speakers/monitors connected?

I had a problem where my external speakers would pop and crackle whenever I would move the mouse. I ended up connecting my external speakers through a Hum Destroyer (isolation box) and all pops and crackles went away.

Like I said, may be totally unrelated but I thought I would mention it.

I hope you get are able to solve you crackling problem.

Re: pops and crackles after upgrading the videocard 2014/02/03 08:18:56 (permalink)
Hi gents,
 now it´s getting delicious.
The last days I tried several things to increase the source of this not loud,
but  disturbing sounds, which are very small and randomly,no real pops:

Deactivated first the onboard videodevice, newstart and .... noises.
Deactivated the Nvidia geforce GT 640 and trying with the onboard videocard... noises.
Deactivated and removed the Geforce gt 6400,newstart, still noises.
So I left the box in this configuration with the onboard videocard,
to shootout the gt 640  as a  source for this ,sorry,sh-------.

@Cjay,thanks,
I  confused E/A conflict with IRQ sharing, so sure I had to try every PCI Slot for
the La Cie firewirecard ,but still ......noi....
Is it possible that the source of the noises  is a wrong setup of irq in the bios?
If yes, which setup can be recommended?

Another question about that:
could the PCI firewire card be the source of that,
cause the modern mainboards use  reduced pci-e slots as pci slot ,anybody knows?

@ maxipower,
thanks for your hind,
I use a focusrite saffire pro 40 via output 1 and 2  balanced jack to balanced xlr
input of the Yamaha hs80m..This reminds that
I also got a new monitor at the time I got a videocard,  the last modell was defect (benQ hd 2450)but no noises.
The new benq could also be a source for this noise
Both audio-monitors(the yamahas) use the same power source.

Not shure ,but  the next step should be to change the settings of the bios ( irq),
if yes, to which settings?
if not, what do you recommend as the next step?

Thanks for every hind,
Pragi

I forgot to mention:
Antivirus ,firewall and network are disabled when mixing/mastering.
The mainboard is an Asus P8 Z77- vlz

So you added a new video card to replace/upgrade the on board VGA, experienced issues, went back to the original no-issues-onboard VGA , but the issues persist?

Not sure,
I replaced the defect monitor  the same time,
please read my post above!
That´s why I changed the thread title.
Thanks

if you're not sure what you did it makes it very difficult to troubleshoot (i did read your post, more than once)

maybe someone has experienced the same?

Re: pops and crackles after upgrading the videocard 2014/02/04 06:13:55 (permalink)
After  3 days of I managed to get rid of this stupid sh.......,
but really don´t know exactly why.
First, yesterday I found this thread here in the forum:
http://forum.cakewalk.com/Pops-and-crackles-with-a-twist-m2953259-p2.aspx
The tests her  results that the cause of this noises are not based on the videocard,
so I tried this ,made by cake´s alex:

Open Sonar, Open a project
Go to Preferences -> Sync and Caching
Take note of play and record buffer size. Double them (or something)
Click OK
Go to Preferences -> Driver Settings.
Click ASIO Panel.
Click OK to close preferences.
Play your project a little.
Close Sonar.
Open Sonar, Open a project.
Go to Preferences -> Sync and Caching
Put ye olde values back into play and record buffer size.
Click OK.
Play project.
Close Sonar.
Stand on one leg.
But still some noises left.
So had the idea to try another driver for my focusrite saffire pro 40,
the mix control version 2.4 and at least,to stand on one leg.

I know it´s hard to help with such issues when the
cause is not described exactly, but it was not possible for me.
I´m really happy to write this,
my issues are resolved.

Now you are on 3.3 of Mix Control I hear so that's great.
FYI the other thing that caught me out was under Edit -> preferences -> MIDI -> Playback and Recording... I had my Prepare using X millisecond buffers set too low, for me it's stable when X= 250.

Thanks...
