Problem with X3 Producer!

Hello!

*** ***
I have problems with " Cakewalk Sonar Producer X 3 " ! I would like to be able to create my own music using the "piano roll view" by drawing out notes!

The big problem is that I do not hear any sound, then I can not select any instrument. I have created 24 tracks for my new project.

---
How must I do to be able to hear what I want to produce and how do I pick different instruments ? ( In earlier versions of Cakewalk was no problem at all, which unfortunately are now! )

*** ***
Contrast, when I open existing MIDI files that I have in my computer so they are played . And then I can replace the instruments in the trails but the problem there is that there are only different kinds of drum instruments to choose from!

*** ***
Whether I want to create an entirely new project or experiment with an existing MIDI file , I want to be able to choose from a library of different kinds of instruments , from drums, piano , organ and flute with more. The big question is just how I must do to achieve this ?

Now that I have bought the most expensive version of Cakewalk Sonar X3, namely producing , I think there should not be any problem whatsoever .

---
Sincerely Alexander from Sweden ! :).

Is there possibly some video tutorials that provide answers to my questions, so please direct links to them!

Hello and Welcome to our forum...

    I have a few questions..

    1. Are there any instruments associated with the tracks you have created. You can create midi tracks and corresponding audio tracks but an instrument has to be loaded on the midi track and the audio track as well as have an output to your sound source (Generally Master Bus or some bus).

    2. Can you go into more detail as to not being able to select any instrument.  How are you doing this.

    3. More of a statement.. Sonar does come by default with a large assortment of instruments and even more associated patches for your playing pleasure. Dimension Pro alone has all of the above patches of instruments that you mentioned.

    4.  Another statement.  Please check out the Cakewalk website. There you will find many tutorials designed for beginners to pros. All for free.

Please give us a little more detail and I am confident that someone here will be able to help get you going..

    Once again.... A hearty WELCOME....

I'm relatively new to Sonar Xn and did find this really confusing.. And have just gone through painfully all that you have mentioned in your post above, thanks to a user on this forum "scook" I now am happily on my way with Sonar...

So for started try and double click Cakewalk TTS 1 from the "Browser Instruments DirectX" and when the "Insert Soft Synths Option" pops up make sure to select either "First Synth Audio Output" or "All Synth Audio Outputs Stereo" and also select "Synth Property Page" and "Synth Rack View" and click OK

This will create an Audio Soft Synth Track.  Click on your Midi Track and select the output to rout to the new audio soft synth your created "Cakewalk TTS 1".

Hit play and you should be good to go...

I've found some other VSTi's are a little more sensitive to midi data - you need to look at the midi events and carefully remove them using event list viewer.  You can alternatively add the Midi Filter Events from the MIDI FX to the Midi track's FX bin and filter out the events...  This is a little more advanced but should get you going relatively quickly.

Anyway good luck - if you search the forum for some of the posts I've made in recent times you'll see I have relatively asked these questions for Cakewalk TTS, TH2, Dimension Pro, SessionDrummer and SI-Bass Guitar along with importing midi files from 3rd party software...

Hope you get it sorted quickly as I kno it can get really frustrating...

Also please click on this link and have a read through it - it will provide a baic foundation of what you need to know and be aware of when setting up Soft Synths...
